I would support AOC. We need someone with a spine, not these lukewarm Democrats that have ruined the party trying to be "moderate"

Dozens of Democrats vote against resolution honoring Charlie Kirk

    https://nypost.com/2025/09/19/us-ne...ote-against-resolution-honoring-charlie-kirk/

    excerpt:

Nearly 60 House Democrats on Friday voted down a resolution honoring the life and legacy of slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Four of those Dem lawmakers hailed from New York — Reps. Yvette Clark, Adriano Espaillat, Nydia Velazquez and “Squad” pol Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — and three represent New Jersey: Reps. Robert Menendez, Bonnie Watson Coleman and LaMonica McIver.

The resolution condemned “in the strongest possible terms” the assassination of the Turning Point USA co-founder and commended law enforcement for arresting and charging Kirk’s alleged killer.
She's gonna have to start acting like she's representing more than just the radical fringe

    They shouldn't honor his "legacy"..

    His legacy is extreme conservatism

You don’t have to necessarily honor someone that you believe was a victim of a terrible tragedy.

A number of those on the right made this very argument for George Floyd or Trayvon, they pointed at pictures with guns, prior arrests, and asked, why does something terrible happening to someone make them some sort of hero worthy of honor or worship.

The assassination was a seriously bad thing that genuinely made me feel sad for several days (and he wasn’t even someone I ever followed) but at the same time I don’t feel any inclination to honor him as a person, and I don’t see that as an ethical shortfall. I just wish what happened, never happened.

I will not “honor” his legacy. Nor do I vote for people who would. He was murdered by a fellow citizen, not the state or a foreign government.

I am disgusted to have seen his death on social media, but I did not and still do not care about him, his organization talking point USA, or anything else the christofascists are trying to do to our country. I reject those who behind the cross to install an oppressive system that elevates only those who believe in their particular interpretation of a religion.

I would absolutely hope that nobody would put forward anything honoring the left-wing versions of Kirk if they were ever in the same position.

She won't win, but she'll take up a lot of oxygen and serve as a useful foil for the eventual nominee. If Kamala's ACLU questionnaire led to the "they/them" ad, AOC's past comments will provide reams of material for opposition research.

This is all preamble for eventual President Stephen A. Smith to solemnly shake his head on stage before telling her to "go back to Brooklyn and eat some matcha".

Trump did not meet the people where they were at, but still won. It's not about individual policy it's about integrity and consistency. Trump is consistently self-serving, and he has integrity of a slime ball. This is better than being a flip flopper.

the point was more about AOC's leadership potential and appeal to a broader national audience, it really wasn't about the content of the resolution itself. I have no real opinion on that.

looks like the Post has added more to the story:

Ranting AOC rips Charlie Kirk, leads horde of Democrats who voted against resolution honoring assassinated commentator: ‘Reckless’

    https://nypost.com/2025/09/19/us-ne...ote-against-resolution-honoring-charlie-kirk/

    excerpt:

In a floor speech before the vote, Ocasio-Cortez called the resolution “reckless” and said it was being considered “on a purely partisan basis.”

“The majority proceeded with a resolution that brings great pain to the millions of Americans who endured segregation, Jim Crow and the legacy of bigotry,” she said.

The Bronx and Queens Democrat went on to quote some of Kirk’s inflammatory comments about the Civil Rights Act being “a mistake,” that the deranged man who attacked then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul, with a hammer was a “patriot,” and about how “Jews control … not just the colleges; it’s the nonprofits, it’s the movies, it’s Hollywood, it’s all of it.”

“We should be clear about who Charlie Kirk was,” AOC said, claiming his “rhetoric and beliefs were ignorant, uneducated and sought to disenfranchise millions of Americans.”
Again, my interest in this is (a) NOT in the substance of the resolution to honor Kirk, but rather (b) on Ocasio-Cortez's suitability (or unsuitability) to appeal to and to unite an entire nation as President of the United States.

It seems to me that her remarks here are (c) intemperate and (d) not much better than Hillary Clinton's "basket of deplorables" comment.

So all in all I'd say AOC's presidential campaign is off to a good start.

how Schumer decides on his Mamdani dilemma may provide some clues to how he will deal with Ocasio-Cortez in the near future

Schumer, Wary of Blowback, Holds Out on Mamdani
Will the Senate minority leader, the avatar of old New York politics, endorse the young, up-and-coming democratic socialist?

but if she's serious about 2028 she's got to expand her appeal. There's room in the middle/center to do that, but only if she starts thinking that way, rather than slipping back into the faux outrage for her ultra-loyal base

    Skip: Of course

Stephen A: and the I think the promise of a great society depends upon the willingness of ALL of us to be grateful for the opportunities provided by THIS country

    Skip: [nods]

    Stephen A: HOWEVER,
