Said he was a Lin Fan and said he doesn't root for the Knicks.

You have to at least pretend to like your hometown teams and know something about hoops.

Not in the Democratic primary that Major referenced. Biden, Sanders, and Warren were easily the top three recognizable names there. Yang was on a lower 'known quantity' level with the likes of Tulsi, Pete B, and Tom Steyer.

As far as the mayoral race that sounds right but I'm not sure how accurate it is. There were several candidates with a history in NYC politics that likely had an established name. Yang had the Presidential run to build off of but he was a relative unknown in city politics.

Fair - we’ll never know if anyone likes his proposals because he doesn’t know how to connect with an electorate on what’s important to them. In the end, he was still a terrible candidate.

Fundraising was not a problem in this race due to his national Yang Gang people - just like his fundraising in the Presidental campaign is what he and his people bragged about.

Name recognition was also a nonissue given that he led all the early polls due to it. As people learned more about the candidates, they drifted away from him.

While I have nothing against Yang and certainly admire seeing an Asian-American running for major office I always felt that Yang was too light on substance and that he was too much of a one dimensional candidate as President. I didn't follow the NY mayor's race much at all but it sounds like he had similar problems.

I read the piece and it sounds like NYC voters were more interested in substance and experience than in vision or style. That gives me hope for the country.

Regarding IRV we've had that for a couple of elections now in Minneapolis and in general it seems to work well. The problems with the vote count in NYC appear to be more about NYC than they do about IRV.

Im guessing the party will be nonpartisan and centered exclusively around democracy reform, namely the end of the duopoly. Anything else would be a waste of time.
