Basically what it boils down to is... Can this front office identify and develop a franchise QB? If yes? We're in business. If not? We're screwed.
I have complete faith that the Texans will screw up whatever they do. It's taken 10 years but I've given up, there is nothing in this team's history to inspire confidence in any of the decisions they will make. They should change their name to the Bad News Bob Mcnairs.
Absolutely - it's just like Peyton Manning or Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers. If you have an all-world QB, you can change all the parts on offense, lose all sorts of talent, deal with injuries, etc - and you have a legit chance to overcome it all. That's the beauty of trying to find that guy - he makes everything else about your team look better and gives you a much bigger margin for error. The odds of finding a guy like that are tiny - but it's far more franchise-changing than getting the next Reggie White or Orlando Pace.
Next thursday is going to be huge for draft position. Im not cheering for the texans to lose, but Im not even mad that they lost. and who knew before the season, that the texans and falcons would have two fo the top 5 picks next year.
I'm still holding out on the idea that Smith at least can identify 1st round talent. Or that we clean house early in the offseason so that the new GM has enough time to thoroughly scout all the QBs available. But you're probably right that they likely screw this one up. But man. The thought of getting Teddy Bridgewater is the only thing keeping me interested right now.
my deepest fear is if we draft a qb and trade keenum...and keenum becomes a elite qb...i will forever hate our ownership if that happens...because we never get the full potential out of our players Ex. Jacoby Jones..Quentin Demps...TRINDON HOLLIDAY!!.... smh
Jacoby Jones sucks, that dude was on Kubiak's All Battlefighting team for like 6 years and all he did was drop passes and fumble the ones he caught.
Haha did you see bridgewater in the 2013 sugar bowl against #3 Florida? I remind you that the 2013 Gators defense was one of the best in the country, and was packed with NFL talent. Your logic is flawed.
He's the only QB I'd draft in the top 5. If we get the #1 pick I think you take him. If he's off the board when we pick, I think we have to go defense.
It's so much closer than people think. I love the idea of getting another edge rusher. Our pass rush is pathetic. Reed just isn't getting the job done. He might be better suited for 4-3 DE. Anyway, I like Barr as a scheme versitile edge rushing OLB and think he would be the safer pick of the two. As far as Clowney goes, I'd draft him over Barr if we are switching back to the 4-3 (which we should consider). Clowney is a Mario Williams-like 4-3 DE prospect. On a side not, I'm not sure that Reed and Merculus aren't better 4-3 DE prospects than 3-4 OLBs (Reed more so than Mercelus). I think we are losing the ninja and will need to address DE. But turning Clowney into a 3-4 DE would be a waste in my opinion. Same with trying to turn him into a 3-4 OLB.
If you're referring to Demps use as a return man then all those guys have one man, the longest tenured Texan, who failed to coach up their unit. Jacoby's not #2 WR material, Demps is surrounded by pro bowl talent at all levels, and I'm still scratching my head to why Kubiak would run Holliday (a known butterfingers)as a WR.
So right now the Rams own the #3 and #15 pick in this years draft (one coming form the Redskins). If they offered you #3 and #15 for the #1 overall pick, would you do it? I imagine, Rams would pick Clowney, Jags (let's put them at #2 or trade for #2) would pick Bridgewater.
no.. You are basically giving away the chance on 2 players that can change your Franchise for a long time.. .Personally i would pick Teddy Bridgewater- this guy is getting comparisions to Aaron Rodgers/Cam Newton (You have to take a risk on this) I have even heard comparisions to Andrew Luck (Of course Comparisions dont always turn up- but i should would be the one taking the risk
