Good to see Landlord and Cat posting around here. It reminds me of the good 'ol days... err, I mean last season.
If Roy has his curveball working its over unless he faces another top notch pitcher. If the Nats come back tonight its because the bullpen blew it..Roy is going for another complete game right now.
I think you could make the argument that Bourn deserved an all-star nod over Pence, everything considered. Zach Levine made a pretty good argument that Bourn has been just about as good as Pence this season when factoring in defense and stolen bases.
Bourn should be in the running for Comeback POY I mean he was wat in the 220s last year and he has been around 300 all year...leads the league in steals and triples... Normally I would say go out get a pitcher or something but honestly with the farm system being crappy at AA and AAA we need to just go from within. Bud Norris needs to come up if Russ continues to Whine.
Pence continues to get into a lot of 0-2 counts. I'm trying to dig up stats on league leaders in 0-2 counts or percentage of PAs with 0-2 counts. I read something about a month or so into the season on another site where an Astros fan speculated whether Pence's numbers were a little flukey because of his high percentage of 0-2 counts. I thought it was nonsense given the much improved plate discipline that I thought I was seeing. It's been over a month now that Pence hasn't looked right. Check out his numbers over the last 7, 14 and 28 days: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?n1=pencehu01&year=&t=b
Did you just see that commercial-"balls out comedy". Not a good thing to see with the whole family in the room.
You have to come back from something to be Comeback POY. Last year was Bourn's first real year in the majors - he's just a young, improving player. It's not like he was good, then sucked, then became good again.
If we win this game, we're back to .500 and in 3rd place all by our lonesome. If we lose, we drop back to 5th.
for some stupid reason, I'm still dragging myself through this miserable Indians season. bandwagoner or not....I really can't watch much more of that sinking ship. Astros por vida!
I've been an Indians fan all my life. Astros fan since about '02 when I moved to Houston. The Tribe has had a dismal season. Carmona not only didn't return to form but ended up in the minors. Sizemore struggled then got injured. Peralta struggled most of the 1st half. The bullpen is a mess. Wood hasn't closed well. Even Lee has been struggling recently. Pavano has been up and down, mostly down... Martinez has been a bright spot. So has Choo. DeRosa was doing well but the season was falling apart so they traded him.
comeback player of the year is often given to the most improved player. In every sport. I think Josh "gift from the baseball gods" Hamilton won it a few years ago and he was never anything to speak of in the majors. drew brees won it just because he cameback from rotator cuff surgery and threw for a billion yards, but he was never anything special in san diego.....hence, they ditched him.
Crap, did anybody catch what happened to Roy? I saw him looking at his hand. Looks like it's up to the pen now. No outs, tying run at the plate...
Josh Hamilton came back from drug problems. Brees came back from rotator cuff surgery. Bourn came back from ... nothing. If you're just going to go with most improved player, then guys like Ben Zobrist this year or Evan Longoria last year would win it. There are tons of young players that massively improve from year to year - that's normal for a young player.
Nothing happened really, he gave up back to back doubles (which with roy's performance in the game was a bit unusual) and then next thing you know the pitching coach and everyone else is coming to the mound. Announcers were saying he had a bone bruise in his hand a start or two ago and if I had to guess I'd say he re-aggravated his right hand again.
I hope Sampson can shut em down. Things were going so smoothly a few minutes ago. Roy looked like he was gonna pitch 8 easily, maybe 9.
yea, I think we are from the same area in Ohio IIRC, or fairly close. I'm spent on the tribe. I just wanted to follow them for a season because I haven't paid attention to them in sooooo long. I didn't think they would win the world series, but I didn't expect them to be sub-pirates-esque. oh well, I tried.
