What a fine exhibition of baserunning from Geoff Blum, followed by a fine exhibition of how to be useless by Matt Kata, rounded off nicely with a fine exhibition of how to show a complete lack of discipline at the plate and make certain not to ever ever walk by Miguel Tejada. Beautiful stuff
I enjoy watching Keppinger bat. It reminds me of Loretta. You feel confident that it will at least be a good AB when he steps to the plate.
Only gotten the runner home from 3rd with less than 2 outs 1 out of 5 times this season. That's pathetic.
Berkman was hitting .208/.244/.390 as a right-handed hitter in 82 plate appearances coming into today. He has hit 4 HRs from the right side but he's also struck out 18 times to only 4 walks. I imagine he'd have better than a .630 OPS if he was hitting left-handed against LHPs.
My gut tells me Tejada doesn't make that play ordinarily. He's got something to prove after the 1 official error and the 1 unofficial error he's made today. I've seen several of those running backhand grabs this season where he throws from the edge of the infield. More often than not, the ball hops short and/or pulls Berkman off the bag with the runner ending up safe. He put a little extra something into that throw.
At least we didn't have to use up our bullpen in that 1st game. That's about the only positive I can come up with. If we hold on to this one, we've got Roy pitching tomorrow so... .500?
Thannks Berkman, putting the finishing touches on the Nationals. Solid way to end the night after a horrible start.
I was just about to post this... Lee hasn't homered in 21 games and hasn't walked in 14 games. Pence has 1 walk in the last 21 games and none in the last 14 games. then Pence walked.
