Not too bad for a player everybody here kicked to the curb a month or so ago. Fats was a complete idiot for signing Woody!!!
Not sure if it's the beer ****ing up my mind....but IIRC....Woody has been pretty decent his last few starts. Compared to anyone else on the team that's now Roy. Sad series we had with the Nats though. Been a while since I missed a few games. I just felt sick seeing us getting blown out by Wash. Here's to next season, this series officially caused me to lose my hope for any comeback.
Fats WAS a complete idiot for signing Woody to a TWO YEAR DEAL. I'm glad he's finally pitching better...when it doesn't matter. Perhaps if he would have pitched halfway decent for the first two-thirds of the season we might be in the playoff race (no, I'm not blaming Woody for our bad season, but he contributed to it). Perhaps he'll continue to finish strong and have a good year next year when he is 50.
Why doesn't it matter? The Astros are the only team in baseball w/in 10 games of the division lead and no one gives them a chance in hell. I'm not saying they have one. But to say that the games don't matter is just dumb. The fact is that he is pitching much better than he was earlier, which considering his age, is fairly remarkable. I hope they upgrade more at SP next season, but I'm fine with having Woody around as a #4 or 5.
Within 10 games. look at our starting rotation the next 3 days. Oh, and we have to be 13 games over 500 just to get to 81 wins Personally, I would prefer a pitcher that pitches well when games matter. It is a good sign that Woody has turned it around, but that doesn't change the fact that he was terrible when we needed him to be at least decent.
I'm pretty sure that I said I don't think they have a chance, but whatever. I'm just saying that the games now are just as important as they were when we all said they sucked 2 months ago and were 15 games out. Only difference is that the rest of the division fell back towards us.
We're also 2 within games of the worst record in the entire National League. To argue that we still have a realistic chance, you have to argue that Cinci and Pittsburgh have a chance too.

Bet you are one of those glass half full guys. I prefer to see it as Woody (and Berkman) leading the charge to this year's second half resurgence.
I wonder if I'm the only one that remembers what this team did in 2000. Terrible 1st half...on pace to lose 100, IIRC. They turned it around in the 2nd half which led straight into the 2001 season and a division championship. There are definitely positions that need to be upgraded between now and February 2008. But a little momentum from the guys we have here now isn't a bad thing.
Nope; I think about it all the time. I posted about a month ago that I hope August and September resemble August and September of 2000. It gave us so much to look forward to for '01. So far, not so good.
This year, the glass is neither half full nor half empty. Here are your choices, based the whole optimist/pessimist model:

The glass has traces of H2O in it.

The @#$&#*&$! glass if *@#$&@#*$ empty.

Discuss.
I'm not quite sure I get this point. Teams currently less than 10 games out of 1st in their respective divisions: Yankees Tigers Twins Mariners Philies Braves Brewers Cardinals Astros Reds Padres Dodgers Rockies
Was that the first inning or bp for the Nationals? Hopefully the kid will settle down and the Stros will score some runs to cut into the lead.
