We also just swept the Cardinals and split a 4 game set with the Dodgers(the best team in the NL). Relax, it makes life a lot easier.
We haven't even faced that Philly offense yet this season. Roy and Wandy will only pitch 2 of those 8 games, at most.
The Astros will be 2 games back of the Cubs at the end of today. If we get swept in Chicago, we are 6 games back.
Very true, but why come back and lose 2 of 3 from the not so good Mets? Doesnt make sense. Winning at least 2 of 3 would make life easier on them. But if they prefer the harder road and can still win, so be it. As I said before, Wade better make a move for another pitcher. You're looking at a 3 man rotation, some might say 2. One quality pitcher in Oswalt, one good pitcher in Wandy, and one ok pitcher in Moehler, though he struggled today. You cant really count on Hampton and Ortiz to give you quality starts every 5th day unless its against the Pirates, Padres or Nationals. Unfortunately we dont play those teams every 5th day.
Yep this would be worse case scenario...I wonder if we split and stay close would they make a move for a starter then because they can see we are one pitcher away or would they think we made it this far with this so lets see how far we can get?
Well said... brianmctaggart Brian Moehler is a fifth starter, and fifth starters are going to have games like this. Moehler has kept the Astros in most ballgames
Poppycock. Split would be nice, 3 of 4 great, an Astros sweep sensational. losting 3 of 4 hurts but not the end of the world. Sweep by the Cubs would definitely put a dent in the Stros run. As for the Stros pitching, Wandy and Roy have been 1A and 1B since before the break. Wandy has been as good as almost anyone this season, outside of his 4 or so bad game streak. A #3 pitcher, as Wolf was last year, followed by Hampton and Moehler would be solid and would give the Stros a really good chance to catch the Cubs and Cardinals.
How did we lose a series to the Mets? Better yet, how do we give up so many runs against a team missing pretty much all of their big bats?
Blargh. I was hoping that going to the game would erase the memories of yesterday's debacle. I was wrong.
Pretty much. We were fortunate to win the game Hampton pitched in actually. He atoned for giving up basically 10+ hits (walks included) with a 2 run hr, but still didn't pitch well.
just noticed we are actually 3 games back in the loss column. cubs might be looking to pounce. berkman is missing a crucial part of the season.
Of course they will be looking to pounce. For this week we need to ride on Roy and Wandy's backs and try to take the first 2 games. If we can do that, we stay in with a chance and that's the most important thing. NEWFLASH: IT'S JULY FOLKS
