Another blue star for Willy T.

DaDa: "He should have gotten a better break and not have to dive for it!"

near HR followed by a leadoff double - they'll score here. I can't beleive Scott and Lamb aren't in here, and we already wasted Huff.

Yep, our CRAPPY bullpen strikes again.

How many games has our bullpen blown this year?

    Unbelievalbe.

    FRACK !!!!

Springer is just too darned easy to hit off of.......sure he has a low BA against but that is because he has been situationally used.

He is just not good enough......no movement on his fastball......

The Astros are lucky that Valentine didn't hit that ball to Beaumont... that pitch was FAT.

It sucks we had to play the Mets after a six game win streak. I guess it shouldn't matter who we play but the f-ing Mets in our one good run all year?

This team won't go anywhere of note in the post-season if they can't beat the f-ing Mets.

Honestly... making the playoffs would be nice... but if all its going to result in is a first round exit to the Mets (who we would play), what's the point?

Not sure he should have even taken Wandy out when he did.....but whatever...the bullpen is just the biggest weakness on this years team.

    Full of mental midgets.

They will probably lose 2 of 3 in this series, but considering we are only sending one of our big 3 in the series, in a 5 game series they would have to face our big three 4 of the 5, and their pitching is bad. Glavine is the #2 and we handled him today, Pedro can't stay healthy and he has been average, after that they really suck. Trachsel, El Duque, etc.. We could beat the Mets in the playoffs. We just need to get IN the playoffs.

We can not lose 2 out of 3 in any series...we are not LEADING the wildcard, we are 3 games back...and time is running out.

Can't believe we are going to end this game with Mike Lamb and Scott rotting on the bench. There was no reason for Palmeiro to be used as a PH with those guys on the bench and a runner in scoring position. If we are going to start Lane against leftys .. fine, but he also needs to be gone as soon as the lefty is.

Also now thanks to Garner's infatuation with starting Wandy Rodriguez even though he has done NOTHING to earn his spot, we have a bullpen that has had to be used for 5 innings and that could hurt us tomorrow night with Hirsh making the start.

Great job bringing out Springer for the 8th, instead of Qualls.....Garner is maddening sometimes.

We scored enough runs to win.

The team had a lot of bad things going for them tonight:
    1. Wandy. He had to pitch. He didn't pitch good enough to win, but he didn't pitch bad enough to lose... typical Wandy start (ie - mediocre). Sampson (a pete munro clone) and Albers (young rookie) were the only other options... and with the Mets power hitting left handers, it was the best of a bad situations for the Astros.

    2. The bullpen likely didn't have Wheeler OR Lidge available tonight. Thus, you saw Springer for the 8th (and it would have likely been Qualls for the save/9th inning tie game). Its just one of those things... Garner had them both working pretty hard the last two games (which were just as must-win as this one), and you can't have them for all the games.

    3. The lineup is severely hampered when they have to face lefties... but they still have a lineup that can compete (especially with Burke adding another dimension of speed and high average hitting). I'd still rather have Huff over Ensberg, but Ensberg's numbers against lefties this year can't be ignored.

Overall, you take your lumps with bad pitching performances all around, and come back tommorow... the Mets won't be able to outslug their way to a championship.

Yea... not too much of a highlight there. We all know Quintero has a cannon for an arm, and can block the ball tremendously.

But, hits bat is potentially worse than Ausmus'.... not sure anybody here wants to travel down that road.
