"I need to apologize to myself because I know if I was healthy... Going back four years, if I was healthy, there is no doubt I would be in a great situation as far as what I would have accomplished in Houston. There is no doubt, because I look back at the year we got Ron Artest and I felt like that year we were one of the elite teams in the NBA. There is no question about it. Not only could we get to the playoffs, but we could have made it to the Finals. And that team -- without me, without Yao in most of the playoffs -- they made it to the second round and took the Lakers to seven games. And the Lakers went to the Finals that year.

"Just thinking about that, knowing that could have been me, Shane Battier, Ron Artest, and Yao... It's hard. It's very hard."

Oh I'm still playing now, there's no doubt about that! I'm not giving my going away speech, my walking away from the game speech, I'm just saying I recognize that I'm not going to be my old self. I still will be effective, I can still be good in this league. I'm not going to be that superstar player that I was. I accept that."

I honestly don't think he can be a big contributor to a contender because of the way he dominates the ball. The best he can hope for is to play for a contender and run the show off the bench and try to get everyone shots.

Seriously the way he plays is not very conductive to winning basketball because he just fundamentally doesn't move without the ball even though post-surgery he is still showing a lot of skills.

The way he plays, dominating the ball of the team, he has to be in his prime and have a solid supporting cast to win big.

For now I don't see him advancing deep into the playoffs unless he can magically regain his domination because theres no way his gonna learn to play hard off the ball.

ive been perfectly clear - you just have poor reading comprehension.

never said he wasnt injured - infact, i said he was injured for most of the last couple seasons he was here...
i said he quit in toronto and the injury had nothing to do w/ it. clutch and even t_mac1 said the exact same thing. some of you TOFs are just so dense.

no, TOFs like u seem to think i am claiming he was never injured when i have never said any such thing (i actually admitted he had been injured for the least few seasons he was here). if TOFs had better reading comprehension skillz they would see i was talking specifically about the toronto game where he did indeed quit and it had nothing to do w/ him being injured.

never said he wasnt injured. ok. i said he quit in toronto and it had nothing to do w/ him being injured (as clutch and t_mac1 also will state).

ive never seen a group of people get so irrationally overdefensive over a professional athlete.

this isnt really true - the same team minus lebron is the worst in the league.

the rockets w/out yao or mcgrady took the eventual world champion lakers to 7 games.

this year the rockets w/out yao or mcgrady are almost a .500 team.

everything i stated is 100% fact. rockets w/out their stars are better than cleveland w/out theirs.

    the truth hurts, dont it?

McGrady has been averaging 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists a game for the last month (30 days).

I agree - T-Mac did not and does not have the capacity for PR. He's been the same way his entire career, it just never bothered people because his talk was backed by his walk. Now that he's just another player in the league, his lack of subtelty and tact just hits people that much harder.

I stand by my assertion that he was not faking his injury and he did genuinely want to play that season. He eventually got so down on himself that he became depressed or something - for this part of the story, I have no problem with people taking offense with that. But from watching him almost every game throughout his tenure in Houston, I can safely say that he most definitely wanted to win with this group and that his inability to play at his peak during the one year where they could have risen to the top took its toll on him.

He could have been more resilient, yes, but I can see why he did what he did. Would I do the same thing? I'm not sure and I would like to think that I wouldn't, but I know that his situation was a lot harder than most people think.

Case in point. He should be apologizing to Houston even if he feels bad about missing a golden opportunity. How about us, the fans? We were all excited that year. He could have saved himself a lot of hate from the fans if he used his head before he opened his mouth.

I'm not going to bash Tinman for his views. He dislikes Tracy because he quits on the Rockets and he's using valid information, most of which isn't taken out of context. I'm not going to complain about that. You have your opinion, I have mine.

jo mama has an opinion too. But he wildly spreads quotes that seem like they were retracted out of his own *******. Not only that, but the few quotes that are legitimate are taken WAY out of context. It's okay to hate (I guess?), but it's another thing to spread false information.

Tmac just comes across as a selfish guy. It's all about him and never about the organization or the fans. It makes it hard for me to root for him especially after throwing us under the bus when he got injured. I agree that if he handled himself better in the media, there wouldn't be so much animosity in Houston towards him.
