Mavericks would be very interesting fit with Butler out for the season, though I'm not sure McGrady will be ready for major minutes this year.

Likely the Pistons will try to unload a bad contract along with McGrady, maybe even Rip Hamilton.

He can play big minutes. He was averaging 29 minutes while starting and averaging 13 points 7 assists and 6 boards on 50% fg.

    Disagree..

T-Mac needs the ball in his hands to make plays, and having a ball dominating PG is not going to fare well for him.

He'd be better off suited to being in a place where he gets to initiate the offense. The Bulls would be an ideal destination for him, but only if he is the lead ball-handler off of the bench behind Derrick Rose.

that's pretty much what everyone who had realistic expectations of him expected

by the end of the season and after a productive offseason he should be able to average 15, 5, 5 which are grant hill type numbers except tracy will probably get more assists

Returnin to the argument about Mac in Orlando

Some people just forget how aggressive he really was. He never showed his athleticism and aggressivness in Houston uniform at such consistency and in 100% as it was in Florida where he was the human highlight real, unstoppable superathletic guy with touch, smooth, finesse and high basketball Iq. Injuries grabbed this aggressivness out of him and never give it back

To be fair, he was pretty jump shot happy even in Orlando, He took a lot of those pull up threes with like 20 second on the shot clock

He's always been jump-shot happy, it's been his weapon of choice since he became a scorer.
But I agree with the poster that said that we never saw the "athletic freak T-Mac" in Houston.
Make no mistake , he was still great but I was pretty surprised when I first saw him play here, he just wasn't the same athletic freak he was just the season before.
I think a lot of long time T-Mac fans saw this too. He still had some great dunks (like the one on Bradley) but it wasn't the same thing... in Orlando he was just quicker, jumped higher etc.
The Magic was more of an uptempo team too.

I remember during the summer of '04 NBA.com made a ranking of the league's best dunkers and McGrady was ranked 4th and there was a quote by T-Mac saying that he thought he was ranked too high and that his days as a high flyer were behind him. Also said that he was the oldest 25yo in the world...

'04-'05 he was in his athletic prime... Hell, he was just as athletic in '05-'06 despite the injuries if you saw the all-star game/katrina fundraiser...

He just declined drastically in '06-'07 athletically.

Yeah but the difference was that he rarely showed us really athletic plays compared to his orlando days, especially in 05-06.
I remember being surprised to see him do those dunks during that katrina game.
And in that 05-06 season, his play before the all star game was pretty pathetic and he then goes doing windmills, and reverse alley oop during the asg......I thought that was pathetic, he played harder in that meaningless game than he did in actual games with the rockets...

If you look at his body shape from his magic days to the 07 season yiou would see he had alot more muscle mass around his shoulders and biceps. Van Gundy wanted him to be bit stronger to be able survive the rigours of the nba.

Yeah and that worked really well for him huh ;) ?
Putting on additional weight when you already have a bad back isn't the smartest thing to do.
And it's not like he bulked up so that he could take more punishment when driving to the basket, because he barely drove from 05 on.
It just made him slower, that's it.
And I would hardly call what he put on "muscle" mass...
Even now I think he should lose some weight, look at guys like kobe, ray allen, grant hill...they're all older than him but they kept themselves in great shape over the years.

He actually had that serious back injury after the katrina game.

Thats the same year we saw him working hard with his trainer with the weights and such.

Its the same year the entire rockets team was decimated with injuries and they had to fill the roster with D leaguers and guys who didnt even want to play in the NBA

Did you say Grant Hill? The guy who was out injured for about 7 years?

Im sure McGrady would've done better under PHXs trainers too instead of the Rocket doctors who seem to do a bad job every year of managing team injuries

Wow, McGrady got fouled so hard.

Would've been called 3 years ago.
