I remember putting together a list of why that season, in its entirety, was one of the most amazing that I've witnessed in my lifetime by any team. They became the first team ever to start the season somethign like 15-30 then make the playoffs. I think that there may have been an AL team that also did it, or came close to doing it, in the same season. The A's?? There was that epic 18-inning game against the Braves. I actually had the fortune of attending that game and really don't go to that many games. I just happened to have family in town that like baseball so I bought some nosebleed tickets. There were a lot of other things that I can't even recall off the top of my head but it was truly an epic season from finish to end.
Just glancing over Lindstrom's career numbers, he's walked a lot of batters and thrown his share of wild pitches. I'm guessing that command is one of the reasons that a guy with that kind of heat was available through trade. Let's hope that he gets his command together with this club and continues to work on that slider.
I'm a little concerned because I feel a distant hint of optimism about this team. It's very distant and I may be mistaking it for something else so I'm not ready to fully acknowledge it. Plus, I don't really understand optimism. It's a foreign concept to me.
I am not big on pitching coaches or hitting coaches making a huge difference minus a certain few but I have to think Arnsberg has and will help Lindstrom with his control issues. He seems to have done a nice job with certain pitchers, so far so good I guess.
It's hard not to resist when every single thing that I read about the Astros predicts them to be among the worst teams in the league this season. Unfortunately, there are a lot of numbers to back up that viewpoint.
PumaOneLiners "His name is Puma...but I don't think he demonstrated any cat-like actions right there." Brad Mills, on Puma's failed attempt to steal 3rd.
If we win tomorrow then 7 straight wins is very possible. We would have Roy and Wandy to face the Pirates, then Myers, so 8 straight is not out of the question. I know, I probably jinxed the Astros, we'll probably start a losing streak tomorrow.
How bout dem Astros! I only caught the end of the game, just in time to see the 2 run triple. Blum is soooo clutch. I though, I became a major hater after his HR with the Sox. He's come up big for us this season so far. Fun series. Bring out the BROOMS!
Haha. Eh, I still see us finishing 4th at best in the division, but there is no reason what so ever to not at least get a bit excited with the way this team is playing right now. I jut wish we would have won that first game against Chicago. I wonder what the record is for most consecutive losses, followed by the most consecutive wins to start a season.
If they won the first game against the Cubs, then it is likely that the events after that would have changed. In other words had they won the first, they may have lost the second.
