see..here's the crazy thing about baseball. on paper, you'd think that. absolutely. they SHOULD be better. but we know that doesn't always happen. we know there are teams who load up on talent in the offseason...and it doesn't work out for some reason. injuries rise up. players don't play the way they did in previous seasons. young players you didn't expect rise up and play out of their minds on other teams. and on and on.
Actually I am glad that the Astros did not make a trade for a marquee player such as Tejada. I am sick of them giving up all their good prospects for half or in this case 1 season of a big name player. There is a reason why baseball is a162 game season. 1 game does not mean anything. I am pretty certain that Jason Lane, Ensberg, Wilson will come around. Why is making the playoffs contingent upon making significant offseason moves? If that were the case the Yankees or Red Sox would win every year. Clearly that is not the case so just because the Astros did not go out and give some big name guy a $100 million contract does not mean that they will not make the playoffs. P.S. To all Astros fans who expect uncle Drayton to shell out $150 million in payroll every year move to NY and root for the Yankees. Houston is not NY so that is a pipe dream.
that is the crazy thing about all sports. I mean look at the Texans did anyone before the season think we would end up 2-14? The Yankees always look good on paper too. To me that is the fun part in predicting. Getting all the variables and deciding for yourself what you think will happen. Hell I got screwed in my NCAA bracket with just about everyone else I know because you just never know. This is one prediction I feel pretty strong about but REALLY hope I am incorrect about.
Well I guess I am the Chance of this baseball season. Now I don't think the Astros will do that bad, but I think they will get around 83 wins. I don't want to upset any one else so I will leave it at that and we will see how the season plays out.
Man this is gonna be a long season; 2 games and we're already doomed A little something I've noticed about the Astros of the past 5-10 years. They almost always get off to a slow start. They can't afford to go 15-30 again nor do I expect them to, but don't be suprised if at the end of April they're around .500. That'd be a nice improvement over the past few seasons. So please, keep the pessimism to a minimum here... there's been plenty of that from watching the Texans and Rockets.
Anyone know if tonight's game will be televised in Austin? My digital cable says that FSN will be showing the Spurs, usually when that happens either 23 or 77 picks the game up, but it's not showing on my guide.
I wish McLane wasn't such a cheapskate. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2397618 Bagwell's only the 5th highest paid player in baseball this year, behind A-Rod, Jeter, Giambi, and Bonds.
Most likely not. Normally, 23/77 carry the KNWS 51 games and FSN carries the Fox Sports Houston games. Unfortunately, we're in a bizarre triangle of Spurs/Astros/Rangers, so this first part of the season, we get pre-empted by the Spurs. Later in the baseball season, occasionally Rangers games get played over us, but for the most part, Astros games get priority.
I thought I remembered that 77 usually picked up FSN games when the Spurs/Rangers were playing, then 23 always carried the KNWS games.
WELCOME TO HOUSTON WILSON!!!! 4-1 ASTROS!!!! 2 HRS in this inning. Moeler has NEVER given up more than 2 runs against hte STROS>
MAN I swear I had written half a post that said "Come on Preston, make your first Astro hit a homer right now!" There it goes! Eat that offense! Eat that new addition
