Maldy can’t keep striking out at nearly a 50% clip forever and still get almost all the playing time, right?

Astros have an incentive to not play Castro. 250k raise next year for every 10 games he plays up to 2 million

So Javier was the worst SP in MLB last year at 1st strike %?

    That explains a lot.

I think that’s worth it given the alternative. Maybe though Maldy has some Godlike game calling ability that’s worth 2-3 wins a season. I’ve never understood the Astros love affair with him.

That is at least the 4th bad strike call in 3 games against Yordan.

ETA- well-placed infield hit for the RBI (106 exit velo)

He's made great contact 2-2 tonight

Do any of the fangraphs/savant type guys keep track of called in/out of the zone strikes on individual batters?

Baseball Savant has a search feature that can do it for the rule book strike zone (i.e., rectangular instead of circular blob that is called).

Yordan is 7th in balls called strikes and Straw is 15th.

Tucker showing off the arm while running right at the bag. What was the runner thinking?
