Except there's been absolutely no sign that this team's mental makeup is anything but forgetfulness from the day before. What did they do after a close loss to the Blue Jays just before the break? Put up 12. Jays win again? Ok, here's 19 freaking runs the next day out. In most of their losses, it's been games similar to this. Many missed opportunities. They are amazingly good at converting those same opportunities the next time out. What did they do after that tough loss to the Red Sox on Sunday Night Baseball? They proceeded to sweep a 4 game series against the A's on the road.
Good point. I appreciate the evidence. I was more sort of playing baseball psychoanalyst. These guys are tough and smart. I worry a little more about McCullers, who's had a couple of frustrating starts, than the batters. Pitching in the MLB is the hardest damn thing in sports, IMO. But, really, yeah, you're right. This team doesn't seem to follow any of the normal predictions. I look forward to seeing their attitude tonight.
Its surprising to me that what happened last night hasn't happened more often, especially in the last 6 weeks. McCullers is 23 years old. He appears emotionally driven and reactive. He is a #1 when the offense gives him a lead and he keeps guys off base. But he does get flustered when things get dicey and pitches well below what he is capable of. He is like the opposite of Fiers, who seems to get better as the bases load up and slows down and becomes more focused.
The Indians swept the Astros in May; the team followed it up by winning 13 of 14 including 11 in a row. If they stumble these next few nights, it'll have more to do with them being due than it will any lingering issues over a fairly meaningless loss.
McCullers strikes out more, walks less guys, and gives up less homers while runners are on for the season. He's had a couple bad games lately with runners, but that is too small a sample size to worry about. Innings lately are much more concerning.
Sources*: Correa is seeing a doctor today to see the next course of action. Marwin or Bregman at SS should he have a small stint on the DL. Doesn't want to think further than that. *Hinch interview, 20 minutes ago with the bald brujo man.
That's right- I'll attend the **** out of that building. Hell, I'll drink so much Minute Maid that I'll be pissing gallons of pulp at a time. I will do whatever dumb ritualistic crap it takes for victory.
Astros have mostly had Harris, he's MIA now. The bullpen is getting more worn deeper into the season because starters can't eat innings. This was mentioned in the portion you deleted.
The way he sounded last night has me feeling not too optimistic. Hopefully it's only a 10-day DL stint or less.
Meh. The Astros are fine.... although I would like to see them add a dominant arm to the pen. They have the assets to do it.
Welp. The good thing is, he will recover fully. The bad thing, he wont be the same when he does get back this year. That's a big blow.
Put him in the lineup! I kinda want to see what he can do. Time for seance to bring back Beltran's glove from the dead. Really, they need to convince him to take reps at 1B so Yuli can play 3B in case Moran still struggles.
This gives Moran a two month shot at jacking up his trade value for the offseason. C'mon Moran, do some damage out there!
