The "flash forward" HAD to be a parallel universe (or a result of time travel).

    1) Kate's a fugitive. If she were to be rescued, the feds would grab her. She should be in jail (for life?) for murder.
    2) Christian Shepherd is possibly alive?
    3) According to Oceanic's website, the company went bankrupt after the crash. So how is Jack taking Oceanic flights?

My theory: I think there's definitely time travel involved. Each person went back in time with knowledge of the future and changed their individual paths (a la what Desmond was exposed to). What we saw in the finale is the end result on those changes. The flashbacks throughout the seasons illustrate the original character paths (before time travel). Jack, at the end, wants to change the paths because he feels the end result is somehow wrong. Thus, he wants to "go back". But this is referring to "back in time" and not just "back to the island". However, he needs to go back to the island in order to go back in time.

I have to admit that if they managed to close the "Flashes Before Your Eyes" story arc without killing Charlie, it would have been a major disappointment.

But I really liked what they did with Charlie this season and found his death to be crushing......but if they were going to kill him off, doing it in a heroic manner is the best way to do it.

    I found this on Lostpedia.com

"The woman directly behind Jack on the plane in the flash-forward is the same woman behind him on Oceanic flight 815 as seen in the pilot episode"

As a supergeek, I just felt the need to watch the relevant parts of both the pilot and the recent episode.

On the pilot there is a man directly behind him, but to his left there is an oriental woman. There is an oriental woman directly behind him on the "Through The Looking Glass" flight as well, but I think it is a different oriental woman. It is difficult to say for sure, as they are only shown momentarily and incompletely in both, but the woman in the pilot seems to have a more protruding forehead and a rounder face than the woman in the recent episode. I am nearly positive it is a different person.

    Edit:

BTW, if anybody cares, the pilot (of the plane) in the pilot (episode) who gets eaten is Greg Grunberg aka Matt from Heroes.

    Nozz-la Cola is really interesting.

I guess King did write Bad Twin after all, although to be honest it didnt feel like a King novel.

i think the writers said that there was not going to be time travel going on..desmond has his flashes though so not sure how truthful that is.

BUT jack clearly states that he uses the free pass card Oceanic gave them all to go all around the world just to have a drink in the airport and then come back...if they had all gone back in time and reverse their course of action Jack would have never gotten the card...Also like with desmond flashes he kept seeing Charlie die in different ways he tried to save Charlie everytime just to have a new scenario where Charlie dies, eventually Charlie accepts this and sacrificies himself for the good of everyone else. I think probably would have been the same if everyone had that sort of flashback to not get on that flight, they would have still somehow ended on the island. The show has a lot of under/overlying tones of "destiny" and "fate" I would expect no different in this scenario. Remember with Desmond original flashback as well when he tried to get away from going to the island the strange lady in his dream said that he must go and that there was nothing he could do to stop it.

We do not know how far in the future (i believe that it was in the future) this "flash forward" takes place. Jack clearly is depressed and could be delusional due to the meds or lack thereof. (he refers to his deceased father twice in the FF) As for Kate, though she was a fugitive from the law maybe her mother pleaded for lesser charges and some leniency was shown due to her circumstances of being stranded on the island. She may have been granted a special pardon or who knows, served her sentence in full already when the FF takes place.

As for Oceanic still being operational I could theorize that maybe another airline bought out their planes and own the company but kept the name or dharma/others group bought it out and kept it operational.

One thing i also have a hard time getting is the gentleman who gave Locke the file about Sawyer so he could kill Locke's father. That guy became more prominent in the last few episodes this season. This guy was the guy who met ben on the other side of the fence as a kid and help recruit ben to "the others" he also was responsible for gettng juliette to the island. so this guy has been to the island, gone off the island and came back. To me he seems to be a more powerful figure than he lets on, yet he allowed Ben to assume control of "the others" He seems to not want Ben to be the leader anymore so why does he stand for it. I feel like he could probably put an end to a lot of this but doesn't.

My guess is that it has to do with Ben's (real or faked) ability to communicate with Jacob. I'm betting that the rest of the 'others' can't communicate with him reliably. (I'm also betting that Ben can't either, but that is just a guess.)

Ben's power comes from the fact that he's the only one who can communicate with Jacob. The Others believe and trust in Jacob although I'm sure none of them have ever seen him. On the island, Jacob is like God and Ben is just the liason between him and the Others, like a prophet. Jacob talks to Ben and Ben talks to the Others.

Of course, we assume now that Ben has taken advantage of the situation and is misleading the Others in regards to Jacobs intentions. I think that some, like Richard, suspect what's going on but have no proof and risk being outcast by the loyal majority. Locke can communicate with the island and appartantly Jacob as well. Richard helped Locke because he wanted his help in exposing Ben. Locke was a threat to undermine Ben's plans and that's why Ben shot him.

    Speculation on my part

I don't think this is a flash Forward
if they user standard Stage Craft
    Jack is just delusional

Probably from the ships off the coast firing a
bomb/gas to the location of the phone
    and knocking everyone out

now jack is in a dream state while the ship folx make their way to the island

The last 3 seasons are only going to be 16 episodes each instead of the usual 22-24. I pretty sure what they did this year was 8 episodes (Fall) >>> hiatus >>> 16 episodes (Spring). They're just cutting out the first part of that. There's going to be long waits between seasons from now to 2010.

Not exactly what I wanted to hear. I just wish they would wrap up the series and end it. I'm going to hate this new format. :(

But the JCI Coney sure did make my day better. (even if it was a crappy weather day!)

Man I love JCI, been so long since I've had it. It's like an annual thing for me when I'm back in Houston in the summer.

But at least that now that they have a firm end date, they can pace it exactly how they want without having to worry about excessively stretching it with filler episodes.
