Stephen King, LOST, and My Pinhole Theory Too much of the island doesn't mesh with real world realities. Making it a Narnia or like Stephen King's alter-earth "Territories" (Talisman, the Dark Tower) would allow an all-encompassing "things are different there" explanation. I mentioned after last week that Arcadia Park being mentioned got my nose buzzing. I finally refreshed my memory on The Talisman (and Black House) and the Dark Tower series: --> there aren't gateways, but people can "flip" between the worlds, which almost act like a photo and negative. A nuke on our side is felt on the other. A desert here is a wasteland there. But the other side is smaller - walking a mile there allowed the character to have traveled a couple states once he flipped back here. --> The main character from Talisman? Jack Sawyer. Come on. -->Just found out that the Lost team (JJ Abrahms, Carlton Cuse, and Damon Lindelof) have hooked up with Stephen King to adapt the Dark Tower into a film (or series of films). From IGN. I'm becoming more and more convinced of this C.S. Lewis/Territories idea of the island. I see it as if there was a ball with a few pin pricks in it. Go exactly where a "pinhole" is, and you can pass between the two worlds. Chances of wandering through them randomly is almost nill. -->Ben's instructions on the specific heading Michael had to follow to leave -->Desmond's inability to sail back to the real world Like turning on a light bulb that's been painted black except for some tiny spots - the hatch EM blast and the radio tower messages would be able to leave through those pinholes. That would explain Penny's Protugese listening post seeing the blast event, the Others' ability to communicate with from the Flame station, the sonar beacon guiding the sub, and Rosseau's ship following the numbers broadcast. Dharma airdrops: they could be the same as the sub going back and forth. They follow the guide signals to enter the pinholes and exit them. Otherwise, the island is a Bermuda triangle where the ultra-rare accidental vistors enter but can't find the way back out. Michael might leave, but there's no way for him to bring rescuers back (without knowledge of the guide signals such as the sonar beacon). Anyway, I'm becoming firmly entrenched in this theory - which means it's horrifically off-base and wrong. Evan
Decent episode yesterday, like Desmond's character and find him pretty intresting. Knew it was a tease when they killed Charlie at the start but hoped Desmond would just let it happen. Next weeks looks to open it up a lot more with the new arrival.
Doesn't explain how the Others can (or could before Locke blew up the sub) go back and forth and communicate with the "real" world. I'll bet it has something to space-time and parallel realities. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tQEEPoJ0h8I"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tQEEPoJ0h8I" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
Ok, I know not to come in here when I haven't watched but... I have to ask, why can't I find the torrent for this episode yet? I usually do by this time... There was an episode today/yesterday right? If you're answering my question, put my name at the top so I don't read anything I don't want to... Thanks!
Ehsan, I don't know about the torrent, but ABC has it up on their site. You can launch their viewer from here. http://dynamic.abc.go.com/streaming/landing
I took the last bit of information about the plane meaning, the real crash was covered up by the powers at be, so no one would come looking for survivors. Was great to good old 'Patchy' again, like the actor and the character, there is no doubt Desmond will regret letting him go, good thing Sayid wasn't there. Sun and Jins backstory didn't do much for me. It made it a bit more clear that in an effort to save Jin the shame of his mother, she pretty much turned him into the guy she loathed later on in their marriage. Juliet is so hard to read, very hard to believe anything she says but some get the feeling some of what she told Sun was sincere. He last little comment into the tape recorder showed that she's playing for one team, her own.
And this ep showed how he became that. After Sun borrowed the money, her father demanded that Jin now work for him directly, ie. become one of his thugs. This put a lot of strain on their marriage, which ended up leading Sun into the arms of another man. And it all came about because Sun didn't want Jin to know his mom was a w****. Sad.
