Well, there are SOME things we learned from this last episode. Apparently, whatever it is about the island that can cure things like cancer (and Locke's paralysis, I guess) is at least understood by the Others enough to use outside of the island. Or at least they are leading us to believe that Juliete's sister was cured somehow of her cancer in this way. That being the case, that pretty much eliminates the possibility that Ben and the Others are merely living on this island after Dharma began it and they don't fully understand what is going on. I think they are very much in control of EVERYTHING we see happening, even the Monster (despite Juliete's claims to the contrary). What is odd about all this, however, is that Ben did get his tumor in his spine, and as Locke pointed out to him, no one seems to know how it happened or why the island didn't heal it as it did others. Perhaps because Ben didn't want it to heal and he used it all to his advantage (to manipulate Jack). I don't know, and as with many things on this show there are at least two different ways to interpret everything. There does seem to be one underlying theme here, however. Anytime Sayid wants to interrogate someone, for ANY reason, LET HIM DO IT.
You're wrong about Episode 19. Spoiler It's a Locke flashback concerning what he's been up to since hanging with the Others. Also, looking at the order of the flashbacks, here's my theory about the end of the season (taking a wild stab here at a prediction): Spoiler In Charlie's flashback ep, Juliet will kill Charlie to avenge Ethan's death, her real purpose for being with the Losties, and escape the beach undetected (while making it look like she got taken and killed). Perhaps Ben will let her leave the island as a reward? In doing so, Juliet will frame the Smoke Monster as both her and Charlie's killer. (Remember, Kate witnessed a pissed-off Smoke Monster attack both her and Juliet.) Desmond, through his visions, will see what will happen to Charlie but will be unable to save him. The next episode, Desmond will try to convince Jack of Juliet's betrayal but will meet strong resistance from Jack. Desmond will then provide proof of his unusual abilities to Jack and in the process "out" himself to the entire group. Once convinced, Jack will set out after Juliet to settle the score. The finale episode will see a showdown between Obsessive Jack (who always has that crazy look in his eyes) and Juliet. One will live.
It makes sense - the show has consistently set up red herrings as far as who the real enemy is. S1 - appeared it might be a Lord of the Flies type division, or Locke going sinister. The Others popped up at the end. S2 - the tailies appeared to be the Others at first, than we got to meet Ben S3 - the Others still seem to be the bad guys, but they've been softened up a bit The constant threat appearing over the seasons has been Smokey, and an underlying sense that the island itself is not under the control of anyone. I'm betting that this are going to start going buck-wild and the two camps are going to have to gang up simply to survive. Specifically, I expect Smokey to go on a rampage. Evan
That might have been a wild guess by fans, but I'm positive that in no way was that ever implied by the show.
Well, after the Others blew up the raft, Jin was taken captive by the Tailies. Then when Michael and Sawyer finally make it back to shore, Jin, who had temporarily escaped came running at them yelling "Others"! The Tailies then took them captive and threw them in that hole they dug for the guy (who was killed by Goodwin) they initially suspected of being an Other. I don't remember exactly when it all got cleared up, but they did play up the Tailies as the Others for a while.
It was pretty much all played out in one episode. They got knocked out, thrown into the hole. Ana Lucia jumped in and explained that they were on the same flight. Then she stole the gun. I wouldn't say that they were the red herring.
General spoiler by the producers about fan impressions of the others: Spoiler The producers have said a couple of times that the others in general and Ben in particular are much worse people (as in more evil) than they appear to be at the moment.
It was for a couple of episodes, but they were definitely painted out to be perceived as bad guys - remember the first time they showed Eko? He looked like a killer! Evan
well.... pretty lame. i know they're moving the story along and the person they rescued will play in to it, but they could have made this episode last about 15 minutes. it started so good with charlie getting killed, but that's not to happen yet. Spoiler and i couldn't really care any less if they're gonna have to abort sun's baby so she can survive. i'm about done with this show.
I have the exact opposite reaction. From "Flashes Before Your Eyes" forward, Desmond has been my favorite character. My interest wanes in Locke and his daddy issues, and the Jack-Kate-Juliette-Sawyer menage a quatre. The Juliet con/deception is mildly interesting, and I'll watch any time Kate shows up in undergarments, but if I never see Jack again I could care less. There wasn't much in the real-time story, but the Desmond flashbacks had meat.
******* i stpped watching lost and just happened to swtch to it and saw Juliet. she is fooking HOT. i am gonna start watching again
I know we all know this, but Kate is f'n hot...That scene where she is putting her clothes on, priceless... I thought overall it was ok, but Charlie needs to go ahead and get killed...That way Kate and I can get together...oh wait... Seriously, I was hoping for something from the Others, and Sayid, but I guess we''ll have to wait for next week...5 more eps left...At least Heroes is coming back on...
