maybe it's just me but locke has been easier and easier to root against as the series moves along. I hope Jack beat the living sh*t out of him before they took Locke back to camp.

All signs point to Charlie, especially when the preview showed Sun talking with Sawyer about 'digging another grave' if they 'told him', since Sawyer & Charlie orchestrated the faux others attack on Sun. That and the fact that Desmond has been protecting Charlie from one death after another for half the season.

Makes sense if they don't want to be there and know they can't leave because Ben won't let them.

By your comment, don't you want Charlie to die? I mean, if somebody is going to die and many signs point to Charlie, I would think you'd be ecstatic.

I enjoyed last nights episode...I still can't believe that got his dad...crazy....But Jack should beat the crap out of him for blowing it up...This was one of the few "stories" focusing on one charactrer I really liked as Locke has a lot depth and how he broke his back was just sick...Plus you intermingle it with the others...

    Next week looks ok...

So what's with the wish-granting "magic black box" that spit out Locke's dad? Black hole? Genie? Rip in the space-time continuum?

It would have been so much better if ABC didn't ruin it with the promos!

The whole episode I was waiting for it to happen, didn't know what yet, but I knew it was coming.

Still a very good episode, Locke has always been my favorite character on Lost, very multilayered character.

God willing they will kill off Claire and Charlie next week and end their whining....

I don't think they got his dad. Like Ben said, the box manifests your deepest desire or something like that is how I perceived it. There have been some real good episodes of late.

The original flight 815 manifest had James (Sawyer) and Sawyer on it. Locke's dad is a conman...Sawyer took his name after a conman...

To continue this train of thought: Sawyer has a letter to deliver to the REAL Sawyer (and wants to exact some revenge), so perhaps Locke wasn't the one to "wish for" Cooper to show up after all...

    More proof from TV.com:

An interesting thing to note is that "Anthony Cooper, Adam Seward" is an anagram for "Sawyer, the con man, a poor dad."

And regarding the death next week:

What, you can't wait until next week? GermanRoxFan gave you a clue. Let's just say someone is shot.

Next week the flashbacks are for Nicki and Paulo (and will include new recently filmed flashback scenes with Boone and Shannon!), but the promos made me think that only one person dies, so it could be one of the two, with the other one getting away somewhere?

I also understand that the actor who plays Paulo has said somewhere that he already knows that he won't be back for next season, so it could be him I guess.

BTW, my guess would be that the 'magic box' is not going to literally be an actual box, I think it was just a handy metaphor for some aspect of the island.

Also, here are two posts on AICN that shed some light on an interesting theory about the whole genie/wish/manifestation thing going on:

This could explain the whispers in the jungle, the visions of strange animals the Losties have, and the mysterious sickness that killed off Danielle's crew and threatened the Dharma people.

    Hey, they're four-toed beings, too!

Doh... I just realized that that is why the Others only want children and the 'pure ones' or however they described it... If 'it' manifests your deepest thoughts, the things manifested by unhappy people are nasty unhappy thoughts. Along the same lines, Danielle's people probably got sick because they were worrying about disease and the DHARMA people probably attacked the others because they manifested fears about wild savages attacking them.

Also, I don't think that it is going to turn out to be something as tangible as a genie. I don’t think it as tangible and easy as that or Ben wouldn’t have spent his entire life studying it, though obviously it can be controlled, or they wouldn’t have Locke’s father to show him.

I don't remember seeing that in the preview. They did show Locke and the explosion behind him. When they started talking about the sub and the C4 you knew that that's what the explosion was going to be.
