i think that has more to do with the fact it was Valentine's Day than anything else. my wife and I DVR'd it and watched it last night. which means i didn't get to see my NBC Thursday night comedies yet.
Watching Lost is more akin to a Zen experience where it's all about the journey and not the destination ... and we know how well that plays in western culture. Americans want the payoff...then we go on to something else. I'm not saying that's good or bad, I'm just saying thats the way we are and the mass deffection from a complex and continuing storyline is pretty predictable. I'm a little bit surprised that they haven't put some more tangible plot points since we are in sweeps weeks.
v-day and the way they broke up the episodes is what made those ratings. It will pick up as it gets rolling again. It does make me wonder how many people jsut wait for the dvd sets nowadays instead.
I'll echo others' sentiments that this was the best episode in a long time. I don't have a problem with a Desmond-centric episode. I think he's a good actor and his character has some real depth, plus the whole time-travel/telepathy is really intriguing. Whoever it was that picked up on the "Wonderwall" lyrics, NICE catch. I hadn't even thought about it since he saw Charlie singing well before it was revealed he had been saving Charlie's life. I also hadn't picked up on the fact that the head wound he woke up with was from the cricket bat rather than from the hatch implosion. I love reading this thread after I see Lost. Little things like that really add to the show. I bet you we meet the jewelry lady again at a later time, on the island, and as an Other.
They should put a different wig every week on the fat dude. That would make ME want to watch this silly show. NOT.
Tidbits from the last episode (Note: I didn't compile these): - The Painting in Charles Widmore's office has the word "Namaste" backwards, along with a polar bear and a picture of an upside down buddha statue. This painting was displayed as if it was to Desmond's right, and he was sitting to Widmore's right in the room with a chair between him and the painting, but in both the wide shots and the later close-up where he turns to the right to see the boat model, we can see that he was sitting to Widmore's left, and the chair was on his other side. Also, the painting was not there. In a reverse angle wide, there was an unidentifiable painting on the other side of the room, which may have been the 'Namaste' painting. - On the soccer field of the game Desmond was watching, there are ads for Apollo Candy, the Hanso Foundation, Oceanic Airlines, Mr. Cluck's Chicken Shack, Gannon Car Rentals, Butties Diapers, Radio RPR 103.5, KRONOS (selling Titandioxid), and Exposé. - There are a good number of uses of and references to the color red. In Widmore's lobby the delivery man states the package number to be 815. - The Admiral MacCutcheon that Charles Widmore mentions to Desmond was a character from a remake film of the classic, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (by Jules Verne). - Sarah McLachlan's Building a Mystery was played in the background while Desmond was getting ready for his job interview. - Charlie performs Oasis' Wonderwall when Desmond encounters him on the street. This places the déjà vu or flashback at some point after the year 1995, when Wonderwall was released (more definatively after 1999, since "Building a Mystery" was released that year). The lyrics that Charlie sang are: "Because maybe, you're gonna be the one who saves me..." (Desmond saved Charlie from the lightning & drowning.) The producers have stated that Driveshaft is based on Oasis. - The song played on the jukebox in the bar is Cass Elliot's Make Your Own Kind of Music which was also heard in "Man of Science, Man of Faith", "Adrift" and "Live Together, Die Alone". - The book that Hurley is reading is Laughter in the Dark by Vladimir Nabokov. - The title of Sawyer's fictional p*rnography magazines is PLAYPEN, a contraction of Playboy and Penthouse. PLAYPEN also appears on "Scrubs" (3x09, "My Dirty Secret"). - When Desmond is in his flat, he looks at the clock, which displays 1:08, a reference to the Final Destination Theme of the Episode. - When the man wearing red shoes gets killed, his legs are poking out of the wreckage, reminiscent of the ruby slippers and the crushed Wicked Witch of the East in The Wizard of Oz.
My wife forwarded me an email with them. If you check the Lost talkback for the last episode from Ain't It Cool News, this one guy, Dapper Swindler, has a really good theory on the Lost "solution". And, of course, Jeff "Doc" Jensen has his own theory regarding Lost at Entertainment Weekly. (Jensen has been writing for EW about Lost theories for a few seasons now.)
Actually, it goes slightly deeper - The delivery guy's exact quote (that Desmond had him repeat) was that he had a package "for 815" --> "4815" Evan
strange ep Spoiler thought they gave that boat to michael and walt? next week's strange too, but looks like the other characters are finally all showing up again
On the episode that had the scene on the docks when Michael & Walt left there were two boats. I think they gave the smaller boat to Michael and Walt. It had no enclosed spaces, IIRC, and had a stand-up place for the boat pilot. I believed they showed them using the yacht at the end when they were first taking Jack, Kate, & Sawyer to the small island.
WTF??? I thought they were going to answer some questions? "What happened to the children" "We gave them a better life" "Better than what" "Better than yours" WTF? That didn't answer squat. The answers to Jack's tatoos? Who gives a crap. Like that was the burning mystery on everyone's mind. The others live on the main island. Already knew that from Season 3 Ep 1 when they showed the plane crash from the Others POV. Was there something else they were going to answer/reveal? I can't remember from the preview. I like the show and have defended it but they made some promises in the preview and came up short.
Me too, she was horrid, hopefully it'll be her last appearance. Episode just didn't really go anywhere and did answer anything in a real way, ok we saw the kids and found out about Jack tats and that the others live on the same island. None of that was particually moving, at least IMO, esp. after last week's excellent episode
Phuket rocks, but it sure does look nicer than from when I was there...I don't remember the sand and water being that nice, unless they shot at the place were they filmed the Beach... Anywho, ok ep, but agree they didn't answer a lot...
Correct me if I'm wrong but they didn't say they lived on the Main Island only that they didn't live on the island where they worked.
