I asked about the Clinton hate... and several people that are long term Washington employees said that over the years Hillary went from being neutral to largely hated by everyone around her on both sides of the aisle and the lower staff were treated poorly by her. Bill Clinton was generally liked but not Hillary..... as a result those with information were lined up to hurt her push for the presidency.

A squirrel with a medical degree from Paraguay would have done better

Pretty sure a squirrel even without a medical degree would have done better.

by April 3, the CDC, white House covid task force and Fauci were recommending face coverings. Previously, two key factors were different(1) there was widespread concern about supply shortages for PPE for hospitals, like masks, and (2) asymptomatic spread was not understood. There is no question that by April 3, the medical community and the foregoing experts were advising people to wear masks.

trump (and Abbott) ignored this for months, and only recently began his feeble attempt to shift his messaging about masks because he was getting hammered in polling about his handling of covid. And even then, his stated reason for his new view on masks? He thought it made him look like the Lone Ranger.

Those are facts. It is utterly false to claim otherwise. Trump is anti science. Trump is anti intelligence. Trump is a moron who is making America dumber.

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...inuscule-skip-mask-and-wash-hands/4787209002/

    excerpt:

Masks. The only people who need masks are those who are already infected to keep from exposing others. The masks sold at drugstores aren't even good enough to truly protect anyone, Fauci said.

"If you look at the masks that you buy in a drug store, the leakage around that doesn't really do much to protect you," he said. "People start saying, 'Should I start wearing a mask?' Now, in the United States, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to wear a mask."

Fauci also doesn't want people to worry, but many are.

Nancy Lamascus-Smith of Portland, Oregon, got an Amazon package delivered from China this month.

"I jokingly asked my sister if I should be concerned," Lamascus-Smith said. "Her reply was to wash my hands and stay away from her!"

Ashley Nicole Pate, who lives near Huntsville, Alabama, also became worried when she received an Amazon package from China. Her concerns increased when she became sick a week later, so she went to the doctor to get tested for the flu. The test was negative and she was sent home with antibiotics for bronchitis.

Fauci doesn't want people to worry about coronavirus, the danger of which is "just minuscule." But he does want them to take precautions against the "influenza outbreak, which is having its second wave."

"We have more kids dying of flu this year at this time than in the last decade or more," he said. "At the same time people are worrying about going to a Chinese restaurant. The threat is (we have) a pretty bad influenza season, particularly dangerous for our children."

Fauci offered advice for people who want to protect against the "real and present danger" of seasonal flu, which also would protect against the hypothetical danger of coronavirus.

"Wash your hands as frequently as you can. Stay away from crowded places where people are coughing and sneezing. If in fact you are coughing and sneezing, cover your mouth," he says.

"You know, all the things that we say each year."

The date of that article was February 19, 2020 As other posters have noted by early April Fauci and the CDC had stated that masks should be worn. Fauci even corrected himself on his early statement that things have changed and that they have more information.

    I was responding to:
who in turn was responding to:
I take it that @Wattafan was saying "that the WHO, the CDC and Fauci originally said masks were not necessary" and I emphasize the word "originally."

@Wattafan 's statement is correct and @CometsWin is mistaken in his statement "This is a lie."

If Kenny Smith said the Rockets won two championships
And Kim Jong Un said the Rockets won two championships

If the argument is that Fauci is faliable yes Fauci has admitted himself that. That said he did state why he changed his opinion later.

that's not my argument. I don't know who is making that argument. My argument is that the statement @CometsWin made ("This is a lie") is false. Nothing more, nothing less.

Except Fauci did say that one of the reasons he had earlier said to not wear mask was to preserve them for PPE. It is possible to have multiple reasons for an opinion.

if that's the case, that's great. I have no knowledge of that. Although that's still hard to square with the following--which is the message American people actually heard:

    Did you even read it?
My initial argument was that there was early confusion on the mask wearing issue.
If you can't see that from the facts I have presented then the issue is not any kind of intellectual dishonesty on my part.

    https://thehill.com/changing-americ...fauci-why-the-public-wasnt-told-to-wear-masks

Fauci: why the public wasn't told to wear masks when the coronavirus pandemic began
The infectious disease expert also discussed why they are necessary.

    "
Speaking on TheStreet, Fauci discusses how effective face masks are at preventing COVID-19 infection and why they weren’t recommended from the start. "Masks are not 100 percent protective. However, they certainly are better than not wearing a mask. Both to prevent you, if you happen to be a person who maybe feels well, but has an asymptomatic infection that you don't even know about, to prevent you from infecting someone else," Fauci said.

"But also, it can protect you a certain degree, not a hundred percent, in protecting you from getting infected from someone who, either is breathing, or coughing, or sneezing, or singing or whatever it is in which the droplets or the aerosols go out. So masks work,” Fauci added.

“The important thing is actually physical separation,” Fauci said, adding that the combination of social distancing and face masks is the best way for the public to mitigate the spread and reduce transmission while maintaining some normalcy by venturing in public."
    ...
    "
He also acknowledged that masks were initially not recommended to the general public so that first responders wouldn’t feel the strain of a shortage of PPE.

He explained that public health experts "were concerned the public health community, and many people were saying this, were concerned that it was at a time when personal protective equipment, including the N95 masks and the surgical masks, were in very short supply.”

By early April, the Strategic National Stockpile had been depleted, and around the same time President Trump invoked the Defense Production Act to have manufacturing chains across the U.S. focus on making vital medical equipment such as ventilators and masks.

Fauci continued to say that they wanted to give as many masks as possible to front line workers and emergency personnel.

“We wanted to make sure that the people, namely the health care workers, who were brave enough to put themselves in a harm way, to take care of people who you know were infected with the coronavirus and the danger of them getting infected,” Fauci concluded."
