Hey guys chill out it could be worse.... We could be Sam Bradford in his dorm room ,with his throwing arm in a cast, watching Sanchez tear up an NFL team while making millions!!!
Again, I fail to see where you can see them going 5-3. Looking at their next 7 games, @Titans, Jacksonville, Raiders, @Cardinals, @Bengals, 49ers & @Bills, I am hard pressed to come up with 5 wins. I would rate the Jacksonville, Bengals & Bills games toss-ups at the very least. I fully expect them to lose to the Titans, Cardinals & 49ers which in the final tally would leave them at 4-4 which is about where I had them anyway. Unlike many here, I trust what my eyes are telling me and what I saw yesterday are the same troubling things I saw last year and during the preseason. Their lack of physicality is troubling and no matter how much they deny it, they are a finesse team and the entire league knows it and comes after them. You don't think the Titans aren't looking at yesterday's game film with anticipation? Kubiak either will not or cannot make the necessary changes to his coaching philosophy that I feel are necessary to propel them upward so I see this team threading the same ground over and over again. As for all the playoff talk that I saw before yesterday, I am still of the opinion that there simply won't be 3 playoff teams coming out of the AFC South so for the Texans to make it into the playoffs, they'd need to bump Tenn or Indy - a prospect that I see as a possibility but nowhere near a certainty. Until the Texans prove otherwise on the field, I think it is a big mistake to continue to look down on another team as being inferior to them.
Well, to me it wasn't that they were so throughly beaten - it was the way they were beaten. I was astonished at their lack of physicality - they were soft as wet tissue paper out there. And the lack of preparation on the part of the coaching staff was an absolute disgrace: Kyle S looked as lost as Bill Peterson used to on the Oiler sidelines and Frank Bush must have been in Tibet last year because he appeared to have no clue what the Wildcat formation was about. And Forrest er Kubiak looked like he spent half-time listening to his iPod because he certainly didn't make any adjustments. All in all they did their best to look like the Texans of old: inept, soft and unprepared. They may want to talk the talk but they are miles away from walking the walk.
They are superior to the Bills & Bengals when it comes to talent. I think the Jags got better on paper but we're more talented than them also. There is a lot of parody in the NFL. There aren't any easy wins, especially for teams like the Texans, who hopefully are on the cusp of being a winning team. I also think that the 49ers game is winnable for sure. Yes their D played out of their minds yesterday but their offense is mediocre at best. Everyone has to go out and do their job and talent will ultimately prevail.
i agree entirely with your points...and agree big time with your post above when you said that you saw the same troubling signs you saw in the preseason. we see those things and go, "eh, it's just the preseason" because we really really really want to believe that. it's not the scoreboard in the preseason that matters...but when your team can't tackle in the preseason...when they get manhandled in the trenches on both sides of the ball...and when they are just generally whipped from a physical standpoint over and over again...it's very difficult to just flip a switch and become something different simply because the regular season started.
All valid points... but its also a stretch to say that problems that rear itself in the pre-season/start of regular season, will continue to be problems all season long that will continue to cause them to lose games for those same reasons. Chances are, they make adjustments... but instead of in-game, or game-to-game adjustments, it takes them 2-3 games to find their stride. They can't afford to keep doing that year after year, but that seems to be the make-up of this team as a whole (from coaching staff down to the players). This is an offense that relies on repitition, rhythm, and comfort zone. This is a defense that relies on streakiness, emotion, and comfort zone. Clearly, they're not good enough to overcome being taken "out" of their comfort zone at any time.
The frustrating thing about this team to me is that they have so many soft and/or undersized players. Schaub is soft as hell. You get a good shot on him early in the game and he becomes a different quarterback. Slaton is undersized. The O line is undersized. The interior D line is soft. Demeco, talented player he is, is undersized as is Diles. The secondary is soft as hell. Nobody except for Andre, Leach, and Mario can really manhandle their guys out there from time to time. Hopefully Cushing becomes that physical type of player, if he stays healthy. X's and O's are great but football is also about physicality. The Jets just lined up and whipped our asses the same way every physical team does, ie the Titans, Steelers, Ravens. This is why I'd like to see Cowher here. He brings a toughness to this team that it doesn't have and it just won't have under Kubiak. If we have to take a season or two getting Cowher type players, that's fine. Better than another two seasons of getting whipped every time we play a team that has a physical style.
are we still talking about the texans or did you switch over to the lions and not tell anyone?.... i get fans are frustrated but as of right now, the texans will be favored in 5 of those 7 games, and frankly, arizona doesn't scare me one bit. if they can't find five wins among that group, then this is going to be a long season and kubiak's last. i think you're being overly pessimistic.
sorry.. premature submittal... the texans totaled 317 and 375 yards of total offense in two games against the titans last year. if they can hold onto the football and punch it into the end zone, they have a pretty good chance of evening their record this weekend. so... you think it's possible they could bump indianapolis and/or tennessee, two teams that won 25 games last year... but you can't see them beating the jags, bengals, bills or 49ers? that's a total disconnect, Hillboy.
which is why i made... exactly zero guarantees - what's up, dude? this is twice today you've responded to something i never said. i clearly posted, "as of right now..." i'm aware things can change from week-to-week in the nfl. they're a better team than buffalo, unless the wheels are truly flying off this team.
I wasn't challenging you on that, just using your post to make my fear that Buffalo might be better known. By the way, is this a new "owned" pic?
Wow, how much power has to go behind that for him to throw Myers to the side like that...insane and embarrassing.
I really dont understand what can we lose by starting Studdard or Caldwell? I mean, Myers was getting destroyed out there, he made the Oline look bad. Might as well start Caldwell IMO. Guy was a team leader of Bama, drafted in the 3rd round has plenty of upside. Would Caldwell get tossed around like a rag doll against Jenkins...yeah most likely, but he'd be getting experience also. It's like how we started Brown over Salaam. Salaam was a bad LT, so we really have nothing to lose starting Brown and he gained his experience and he hold that spot well now. Time to start Caldwell. I'm sure though we are going to have to watch Myers get manhandled for several more weeks before the decision is made though. Jags, Titans, and Raiders all have good DT...hope we can win 2 of the next 3 games.
To answer your question: Absolutely. It's hard to believe the Jets were without their two best pass rushers in that game.
