just like the last time we played the tennessee titans? hey it seems likely that we'll lose but it can't get worse than today. i felt like we were going to get punched in the face early in the season at some point. it happened in the first game and hopefully it wakes us the hell up.
Everything is almost forgivable except their lack of intensity. No excuse for that, especially on the home opener, none. This wasn't just another lose. This defeat represents something else, a team that has tuned out their head coach. What a crummy way to start the season, just crummy, especially since I hoped the Rockets losing next season would be somewhat easier to accept if the Texans were winning.
With Rex Ryans' defensive philosophy, I highly doubt they'll be any worse than average. They look legit to me. Just like there are matchups in basketball, Jets physical 3-4 defense was an obvious matchup nightmare for the Texans. Look at the bright side. Last year, we lost to Rex Ryan's team 41-13. This year we only lost by 17. That my friends, is progress.
That's the best reason to be optimistic I've come across yet. No excuses. They got raped. How they respond to getting raped is the question. It's better to get a reality check now than later, in my opinion. Even if they can't respond, at least we'll know what they're made of in time to make some decisions for the future sooner.
If Dunta Robinson really wrote that on his shoes and said the things he reportedly said, I wish the Texans would cut him today. Totally disrespectful to the organization, fans, kids and the game of football.
Ive seen it from multiple sources, including Robinson himself...he said that its a reminder of why he is there. So disgusting. Who the hell writes "Pay me, Rick" after the crap that went down this offseason. Unbelievable!
my sentiments exactly. what a colossal let down. (and no, I'm not crying that the season is over: just that the game was a massive disappointment, and 'buzzkill' goes without saying.)
it's sad when the only team in town one could even be close to being unashamed to root for is the cougars.
people forget how good the Jets were last season until Farve's arm basically fell apart. the fans were too over confident. sure, sanchez looked great, but he is the only question mark on that team, that even with their late season collaspe still were a better team than the texans. these rookie quarterbacks coming into the league nowadays are a different breed, ryan, flacco. you can't expect to rattle these guys like in the past. they're more pro ready than even manning was when he was a rookie
Correct. I was reminding myself of this yesterday, and it helped a little bit. Correct again. Correct. Dude was extremely impressive. Correct again. point-by-point agreement with this post. you are spot on.
awesome. Vegas had us winning at home by 5. We got our doors blown off. Our offense was completely ineffective and unable to put a point on the board. Our defense couldn't stop them...you knew eventually they'd break one of those runs that the Texans have a knack for giving up....but consistently getting beat on 3rd and long indicates the secondary we all were concerned about still sucks ass.
As I said in the other thread, if you ask a leading question that can potentially put the team in a better light (gives them an "excuse"), what the hell do you think Kubiak is going to say? It's so funny that you call me a homer, when this identical debate was head one year ago and I was completely right. Deal with it, simpleton, and go watch your morning Sportscenter and do what Stuart Scott tells you.
so that one play was it, huh? we went 3 and out over and over again. we couldn't put the ball in the end zone. they converted on 3rd down umpteen billion times. but if they had just held on to the ball there and ended up with a field goal or maybe a touchdown, all of the rest of the game where we were dominated would have been different? honestly, that seems more knee-jerk to me than criticizing the coaching staff and wondering if they're the right guys for the job.
i thought/posted the same thing last week - their OL and defense had me worried; i'm not shocked at all by the outcome. i mean, ryan's ravens defense just tore the texans apart last year. i was going to add something else, but haven forgotten... lol. anyway, agree. people slept on the jets - that's going to be a *very* good football team. as for the texans, as long as they're no worse than 5-3 at the halfway point, they'll be ok. looking at their schedule, i saw 6 winnable games among their first 8 (yes, with yesterday being one of them); this is by no means a lost season. (and, coughcough - tennessee doesn't scare me.)
i heard that yesterday afternoon...that's just amazing to me. invest that much money in a guy, and you won't let him flippin audible at the line???? holy crap. if you don't have a guy at QB you feel comfortable with enough to let him audbile, find someone else. otherwise, you might be the problem. especially considering this is the guy you picked to be your QB.
wow...you know a helluva lot more about football than me. i thought this was a game the texans should have won...i thought you said that too, actually. i could have seen us losing...had we been competitive and lost, i wouldn't have been surprised. it's the nfl after all. but to be thoroughly dominated at home by this team? yeah, i didn't see that coming. i don't think most people did. props to you if you did.
i was responding specifically to an angry post from UTweezer, MM ("If Slaton doesn't fumble it's doubtful the horrible one-dimensional/uninspiring play calling and bad protection packages would have changed.") but yeah - it was the turning point, imo - the landscape changes completely if we score a touchdown there. big if; i said as much. but it's not like we had a long kick return or something to set that up - we were marching right down the field on them that drive, pretty much doing whatever we wanted. and remember, it was just 7-0 at the time. the defense was containing the run and playing decently... games turn on plays like that all the time. i'm not excusing the effort; they did not play well. they likely lose regardless. i just think it's a different game if we score. really? you think coaches should be evaluated on a game-to-game basis? i'm not defending kubiak, the coaching staff, the game plan, or the players - it was a mess yesterday. but i think lining up head coaching replacements, screaming for rex grossman to start, acting like the season is over when it's roughly 3 hours old is quintessential knee-jerk.
agreed. and I want to be careful not to do that. but yesterday's "effort" absolutely deflated me. with the exception of one drive, the offense was absolutely freaking manhandled. the defense wasn't incompetent but was pedestrian. buzzkill. major disappoinment. and, the titans do "scare" me. That D is good. Really freaking good.
