did you really think brown's was point-blank obvious? the only thing i thought was even remotely conclusive was that IF he was down prior to the fumble, he was down short of the goalline. on the one replay they had from the goalline, you can see the opposite-side official, with a crystal clear view of the play, signaling immediately a fumble. i wrote an article about this years ago - the nfl's playing field is uneven and no one, i mean NO ONE ever brings this up. a smaller, more regional telecast, like yesterday's texan/jaguars contest, is not - NOT, NOT, NOT - going to have the same camera coverage, and thus as many angles, as, say, the sunday night game on nbc. or even the main game on the very same network. how is that fair?... why should better teams get preferrential treatment of that magnitude week in and week out? and how that's not an issue with more people - specifically the freaking nfl players and coaches - i will never understand. had that game been on nbc, there would've been, roughly, twice as many cameras covering it.
I've had a change of heart about this. I'm not making an excuse for that abomination the Texans call a defense, but the idea that they didn't deserve to win is not really fair. They stopped the Jags when they had to (i.e. fumble recovery). The offense made the plays they had to with the TD throw. That was taken away from them on a horrible call. You can say the Jags deserved to lose because they fumbled.
they had a tie taken away from them, at most. they still had to win a coin flip and score...or stop the jags. bottom line is they should have never been in this position. not against the Jags at home.
I know but did the team deserve to lose anymore against JAX than they deserved to win against TEN last week? The difference to me is the Texans made the play the needed to at least tie the game. That opportunity was ripped from...just like the ball was ripped from CB. :
Im too pissed to really get into the discussion of the game because there is just too much to discuss...but, I just think its a joke that people actually bring up Schaub's name. Yeah, so the guy is slow getting out of the pocket...what about everything other freaking thing he does at an elite level? I'd really like to hear an argument as to why Matt is not arguably a top 10 QB in the NFL. I know it was mentioned in this thread that he is not top 20...but anyone who really thinks that is either delusional or on some sort of new age drug. Anyways, just rambling...but for anyone that thinks we need to fix anything on the offensive side of the ball before fixing anything on the defensive side of the ball...I'd ask you to buy a television and watch the games.
It stinks that we have dug ourselves into a hole already. The Colts never lose a regular season game apparently so it's going to be mighty tough to catch them. Hopefully, we can stay within wild card contention.
Yes, did you watch Tom Brady against the Jets the following week? If you did, then Schaub > Brady. Plus, Brady had a week to watch the game tape of what the Jets did in the opener, and he still couldnt have success. Let me also remind you that the Jets are 3-0. Next...
The point I made earlier. Their opportunity to tie the game was TAKEN away from them. No one is excusing the defense...but i'm tired of people excusing the refs every time they make a horrible call on any game in any sport people always go... "Well they had a shot the entire game to win." stop excusing the refs when they make a horrible call like that deciding the game.
Yea, I can't believe Schaub didn't block the whole defensive line of the Jets. I mean, what kind of quarterback let's his center just get thrown around like a rag doll.
no they haven't. they still play the colts twice. they're in, like, a really shallow bunker right now. i was as disappointed yesterday as i've *ever* been in this franchise... but it's not the end of the world. at all. i won't even begin to handicap wins and losses but their schedule is not appreciably difficult. other than indianapolis, there's not a definite loss on their schedule through the season's first 8 games. they can still claw to 5-3 and be in good position at the turn. all yesterday did was reduce the margin for error. BUT... if they beat the colts, that evens out yesterday. take care of business in your other 4 games this half, and 6-2 and certainly 5-3 is still very possible*. *assuming they can find a quick fix for the defense
Where did I say anything about Schaub? I quoted a post that said we had no OFFENSIVE issues. The Jets are the only competent defense we've faced this season and we didn't even come close to scoring an offensive point against them. Not one single POINT. That doesn't concern you? Are you really not concerned about Slaton either? What has he done? Yes, our defense is probably the worst in the NFL. But I still don't think you can say we don't have offensive issues either at this point in the season.
Exactly what I saw - that ball came out right before the goal line. My only question at the time was about his knee being down. One replay showed his right knew down but you couldn't tell where he was because it was from the back. The other replay showed a mass of bodies. At the best, it was inconclusive and wouldn't have been overturned anyway.
Brady completed 23 passes for 216 withh 0 INTs against the Jets Schaub completed 16 passess for 166 yards and 1 INT against the Jets Why would that make Schaub > Brady? I don't get it.
there's always a lot of post-loss frustration and vitriol. a lot of fans simply want blood and any insight that dares to "excuse" the texans is routinely dismissed rather harshly. also, i think there're too many people too concerned about the score. i agree they're a better team than jacksonville and should beat them - but there's no shame in having to score late to eek out a win against a hungry, winless division foe. that's a tough match-up, imo. the nfl is comprised of a few elite teams, a few real dogs, and then everyone else is kind of evenly bunched in the middle. so, yeah - it was a bogus call and it *did* impact the game: it took 6 points off the board. it didn't take the *opportunity* to score 6 off the board, like we would have had first and goal or something. there's no assuming here. it literally took 6 off the board. that's a pretty difficult pill to swallow. no one should assume they would have won, of course. but they were never given the opportunity to either confirm our worst fears or surprise us and that's pretty lame.
