It's tough. I don't want to over react, but at what point does ownership say enough is enough and make some changes?
I agree a new coach in needed. I think Cowher will go to Carolina where he lives. I want Gruden, Holmgran, or Marty Schottenheimer.
Holmgren is probably going to enjoy retirement for awhile (since it was his decision to step down in Seattle). Schottenheimer is also likely too old to want to come here and rebuild everything in the mold of Marty-ball (which takes awhile). Gruden is enticing... but if he has too much fun commentating this year (which is what happened with Cowher), he won't be going anywhere. Also, he's a great commentator... and has job security there... and he may just decide to wait till a better job opens up (like the Cowboys?).
Barber: 6th round pick Bennet: 4th round pick Busing: Undrafted Ferguson: Undrafted McCain: 6th round pick Molden: 3rd round pick, never plays. Bernard: 2nd round pick...CUT BY THE CHEIFS, no one picked him up but us. Quinn: 4th round pick Reeves: 7th round pick This is our 2ndary folks. Who we go to battle with every week. It's been like this since Glenn has left this team. It's the reason this team won't make it past the next hump and remain average until this is fixed. It's just like all those years our Oline sucked really bad? Well this time it's our secondary. This is why a team that had problems passing the first two games come into our house and tear us up. It'll continue. Wilson and Dunta are good players, but Wilson would be a backup on any other team, and Dunta would be a #2 CB on a good playoff teams. Reeves will help, but he's also at best a backup.
First time ive ever agreed with John McClain about anything "The Texans are an abomination, an embarrassment to the city, the county and to themselves." http://blogs.chron.com/nfl/
He's the only person on the Chronic sporting staff that I respect, because he doesn't mince words or talk out of both sides of his mouth.
I think McClain is doing nothing but embarassing himself... its clear that he's not all that objective as a journalist with this team. He's attached to them... for better or for worse... and he's a fan (for better or for worse).
I couldn't agree more. Here is another list for you: Travis Johnson, 1st round Amobi Okoye, 1st round Jason Babin, 1st round How could you not draft a hard hitting safety or a top flight corner one of these times in the first round?
Man thats pretty rough, Anna Megan Riley must have rejected him harder today than usual, which makes the Texans loss a tougher pill to swallow
He couldn't talk out of both sides of his mouth even if he wanted, one side always has turkey leg jammed in it.
Also instead of applying a band-aid and signing a FA vets to fill the holes, we'd rather just throw a bunch of undrafted rookies out there.
They didn't play terrible today. A few breaks here and there and they win. The problem is their D is terrible. I think it has less to do with coaching and more to do with the lack of talent on that side.
You don't need a boat-load of talent to have a good defense. You do need that for offense. While the secondary has issues, the defense should be better.
Dunta, other than the strip, had a TERRIBLE game... pay me rick my a**. Trade that turd. As for the Texans DL, you are the most worthless pieces of crap in the NFL. Our secondary may suck, but we never blew that many picks and money on them, unlike you. Okoye, Smith... and you know what, I'm so pissed off I'm even going to call out the departed Travis Johnson... You are underachieving losers who are getting outplayed by journeymen and a freaking dinosaur. SHAME.
Lance Z speaks the truth. Unreal how every time we think we've taken that next baby step (yes, even after 8 years...), we stumble and fall flat on our collective faces.
John McClain is a hack who should have been laid off with everyone else this year. Fred Bennett cost us this game, pure and simple. Not the goal line fumble (would have tied the game). MoJo's big TD run happened with Bennett conceding sideline containment to pointlessly line up opposite their RT (which he did each time there wasn't a WR) - easily blown up, and no one in the zip code to contest Jones-Drew. Maybe you can assign blame on Bush if that idiocy folds into his philosophy. It was no secret they targeted Bennett, throwing at him constantly and finding him several yards off his man over and over again. I decided to coin the phrase "uncoverage" watching it. For all those that kept saying "the defense plays well except for one or two plays" - well, this is why that's not remotely acceptable. You can't give up those big play "whoopsie" TDs in the NFL and win. Can't handicap 1 or 2 TDs when all you need are 4 to win the game most weeks. This was a prime example of that. The good: Dominique Barber got demoted in favor of Busing, and it helped a lot. Hopefully he eventually joins Ferguson in the Do Not Play club. Aside from #32, the defense played well. The secondary's tackling woes continued, but Robinson got a money turnover to make up for a slew of mistackles. Slaton faced a less intimidating defense and did a little better. HOpefully he builds on this. Still wasn't anything to high five over, but beats the scrub outings he had. I was excited to finally see creative formations on offense. Double TE sets, Walter lining up as a blocker, Daniels as a FB, etc. The OL have demonstrated that they can't run block acceptably, Leach is only serviceable as a lead blocker, and we have TE depth and versatility coming out of our ears. The sets didn't pay massive dividends, but they helped. Great to see the coaching staff accept that they needed to stop forcing the DOA run game and embrace the strengths of the roster. Is it the end of the world that we blew this game? I don't think so. Division games are unpredictable and always have been. Yes, we needed to win and it sucks that we lost to a weak team at home. But we can go there and even things up. Can't do that if we blow the STL or OAK games. And I'm a firm believer in splitting the division games. Titans went 0-3 which was important for our playoff ambitions. 9 wins seem to be the reasonable expectation for us, with 10 being optimistic. Ten can't have a good year if we're grabbing a wildcard with 9 wins. Evan
So you are "taking your ball and going home"? Pretty weak and very attention w**** like (announcing it the way you did and all). No offense of course.
Serious question: How much of missed tackles is coaching, and how much is talent? Coaching is about more than just playcalling. How much does tackling usually improve after a player get to the NFL?
