With Indy and Baltimore both winning today that means if the Texans lose on Monday (or any other game) then they will be mathematically eliminated from postseason contention. The worse record Indy and Baltimore can have is 8-8. If the Texans lose the best record thay can have is 8-8. Since both Indy and Baltimore have beaten the Texans they own the tiebreakers, therefore, eliminating the Texans from the playoff race.
Anybody interested in 45 yard seats on the lower level (field level)? section 107 row M? Face value is 95 each, looking for 150 for both. let me know via email or post in the thread
OK some of you smarter football folks than myself (read: almost everyone here) evaluate our Texans at this point of the season. I'll throw out what I think, and I'm sure I will be disagreed with and proven wrong on many points! <table border=1 cellspacing=0><tr><td bgcolor=#DDDDEE><b>Offense</b></td><td bgcolor=#DDDDEE><b>B</b><td bgcolor=#DDDDEE>Slightly above average; still among the top half in points scored</td><td rowspan=5> </td><td bgcolor=#DDDDEE><b>Defense</b></td><td bgcolor=#DDDDEE><b>C-/D+</b></td><td bgcolor=#DDDDEE>Plainly below average, but the talent looks better than what the coaching has brought out of it</td></tr><tr><td>QB</td><td>D</td><td>Starter, even with a couple bad games, looks good, but he's fragile and can't stay on the field (all this for $24MM and 2 second rounders!). Backup makes plays but goes through reads far too slowly and is a TO <i>machine</i>.</td><td>Line</td><td>B-</td><td>All that talent, so little production outside of the Beast.</td></tr><tr><td>RB</td><td>B-</td><td>Slaton looks good, but can he be an every down back? Is it just me, or is anyone else having a hard time getting fired up for this one? Not just because of our record(s), but MNF just isn't what it used to be since moving to ESPN. It's just another football game on cable now.
MNF needed a change, however I'm a big fan of Kornheiser but not on MNF. I hate how he tries to do the costas, story behind the game/players/coaches whatever before the game. this aint the olympics
The roof is still broken, right?? It will be in the 40's tonight at game time....good football weather!
Geeze...when was the last cold weather outdoor game in Houston? Oilers AFL days pre-Astrodome? Should be interesting.
Looking forward to this game, especially with the roof open and temperatures sliding below 50 over the course of the game. Texans are really not out of the hunt for 7 wins, and I would take that as a decent save of this season. Key for tonight: containing big plays. Our offense should be good for 24 points, but we can't allow the Jags to break off those 30-yard killers that we've become prone to. If the D-line maintains a pulse for 60 mins, that should help a ton. Hopefully Richard Smith realized he needs to scheme better coverage for Matt Jones than he had in September......but who are we kidding. 5-11 Reeves vs 6-6 Jones in man coverage is a sure thing! To rate the entire team at this point: Overall offense: B Very capable between the 20s, but that's horseshoes and handgrenades. QB: C+/B- Do so much good and undo it all so quickly RB: B Slaton's good to very good, but doesn't bend defenses to his will...yet Receiving Corps: A+ As good as you could possibly hope for, period. O-Line: C+ Holding their own for the most part. Coaching How does a QB guru head coach not teach either of his QBs to not put the ball into high risk coverage? Making good, snap decisions is 90% of QB play at this level. Overall Defense: D+ Only 3 teams are worse at surrendering points, and that's all that matters. The terrible position the turnovers put them in is the only thing saving them from an F. D-Line: Exceptionally talented, embarrassingly little results. 1.5 sacks/game is not acceptable. Our top 7 D-Linemen garner a combined total of 13 tackles/game. Ryans and Diles alone have contributed more. LB: B- With a healthy Diles and Ryans, this is a high-ranged tackle machine. With only one healthy at a time, it's stretched thin. CB: D+ Not an F, thanks to Robinson and the fact that it isn't Faggins' or Reeves' fault that they keep being stupidly left in isolated coverage against receivers they haven't a prayer of staying with. Safeties: D- Eugene Wilson is the sole member of the group that has a clue. Frequent victim of big play TDs? This position is almost certainly a main culprit. Coaching: F This just in: career LB coach Richard Smith is out of his depth. Evan
The Jax Jags are customers. Save for this past close game and last season's ugly loss, we own their a$$. Battle red day... remember that kickoff return for a touchdown? We'll have three of those... after their field goals' ensuing kickoffs... We'll stop their running back combo, and even though Slaton is a PROBABLE or QUESTIONABLE, he'll still run for 150 yards. Texans 33 Kitties 16 ¡¡VAMOS, TEXANS !!
Just realizing - we're one team away (Carolina) from playing all 4 kitty cat franchises in the league this year. Pointless trivia, hooray!
FWIW, the beat writer for the Jags was on AM790 this morning. I caught the tail-end of it. He said based on the players' body language and how they practiced this week, he doesn't expect a very good effort from the Jags. His candor caught everyone off-guard. One of the hosts of the show then said if the Texans lose this game, they must really really ****. If the troops haven't quit on Kubiak, it could be a "feel good" whipping for the Texans tonight. I hope so because this game might be served to them on a silver platter. Don't blow it Sage!
We usually play the Jags tough. This should be a good game. Hopefully we win on the national stage. I hope our young studs all shine so we can have some people hop on next year's bandwagon. I hope there are some Fire Richard Smith chants! I heard one of the MNF guys say last night on ESPN that Andre Johnson just might be the best receiver in the league, he just doesn't get any coverage by the media. That was good to hear. I still say that this team would be a playoff team if we had a good defensive coordinator. Fire Smith and bring in a top tier coordinator next year, please. I wish we could get someone of Dick Lebeau's caliber....but that's dreaming.
