Thanks for voting. Good to see so many people voting for the first time. Best thing to do to counter corruption in the system is to vote in huge numbers... it keeps interest groups from wielding a disproportionate amount of influence.
Ya, i live on the South side of Tomball, the most REPUBLICAN district in the Free World. My friends are trying to talk me into a run for Congress as a Democrat from Tomball.
Finally voted today. I went to the polling station on W Gray. The line was out the door, but it only took me about 30 minutes to go through it. Not bad at all.
Woo! Just came back...only 30 minutes in Cypress. Voting on the machines were easier than I thought. Here's to Gene Green for voting no on bailout, any one not McCain, some Libertarians, and the Republican Railroad Commissioner due to his bowtie!
Absolutely. This was my first mail-in ballot as I moved to WA from UT in 2007, and it's so much more convenient and allows for greater researching of the issues right as you're voting. Barackin' the vote.
I'm in Florida, but this is also my first time doing a mail-in ballot. Did it last night while watching the Rockets win . I also just realized how great it is that you can take your time and do some research while filling it out.
I'm scared to think how many people voted that really should not have, meaning do not even know much about who they voted for.
People also have the right not to vote too. Pushing people to vote that do not understand the issues is a bad thing to do (in my opinion). I'm chosing not to vote. I don't like McCain and I definitely fear the next 4 years with Obama, but I don't see a canidate I like, therefore I am not voting.
That's sad. The more votes there are, regardless of party or candidate, the less influence interest groups have because the percentage of what they can deliver goes down. Therefore, politicians aren't as beholden, aren't as extreme, and are forced to govern for all instead of enough special interests to get them over 50% in elections where turnout is low. Everyone should vote and take part in our democracy... but I'm old-fashioned... I still pull over for funerals and think everyone should take jury duty seriously.
So having uneducated people vote is a good thing? All I'm saying is the only reason I would vote is for fear of how this country will turn out after he is elected, not b/c I like the other canidate. And I don't consider myself to be that well educated on the issues. Your one vote will not change the election. Popular vote does not elect the president anyways. (to my understanding)
I agree with Bogey, and I think you are misinterpreting him, rimmy. Having uneducated people vote is scary. I don't think Bogey is saying that they should not be allowed to vote, but that we should seek to educate them before they cast said vote. Now - as to not voting intentionally - I can understand that as well for national positons. I would hope that Bogey would at least care about his local politics enough to vote in those elections...
Thanks, that's what I was meaning. All should be allowed to vote, but please educate yourself before you do.
No voter should feel like there's some threshold they have to meet before they can vote.. whether that threshold is supplied by people like you or they place it on themselves.
