Sorry to miss out on all the excitement, but I've been dealing with breakups, legal battles, music and regular work. Interesting that Humberto popped up like this, but not uncommon. It should be onshore tonight, but we're going to get a lot of rain because it will move SLOWLY to the northeast. There is even a chance it will move back south and out over the Gulf, but that is highly uncertain. Depressions and tropical storms don't have the same organized upper level structure as hurricanes so they are more difficult to predict. It would not be a shock to see 10-15 inches of rain over the next two days in specific areas. Most of us won't get that much. It will flood in places, but I seriously doubt this is Allison Part Deaux no matter what local television news might want you to believe.
I was listening to SR610. And the afternoon crew made mention of a tropical storm. I was like, where the hell did that come from? I was going to go to Chucky E Cheeses tonight, but forget that. I'll go Saturday.
Am I the only one that thinks of Fatty everytime I hear the Dos Equis "Most interesting man in the world commercial"
Woo classes cancelled until noon tomorrow at UH...that's my 2 longest and most boring classes from 8:30 to 11:30...YAY for sleeping in!!!!!
Or incoming? I'm scheduled to fly in, landing at Hobby at 11pm trow night, but am wondering if it's better to fly in at 8-11am trow... Thoughts? Help!
i think you're far better coming in tomorrow night than tomorrow morning. we probably will have the hardest rain late late tonight and early tomorrow morning.
Yeah I'm flying out tomorrow morning from there...I'm thinking a delay is in my future. Although the weather on 740 just a few minutes ago said the majority of rainfall will be in southeast harris county, and people on the west side might not see much at all.
Looking at the latest radar frames, it looks like you Houstonians will be spared from the worst of the rain. But the farther south and east you go the worst the flooding could be. It's already raining really hard over Galveston. BTW, where is UH. Is it in downtown? 'Cause if it is, then I don't see a reason for cancelling classes tomorrow morning anymore.
It's going to make landfall at or very near Galveston. We're going to get a LOT of rain, but not as much as they'll get to our east. The worst of it should be passed by tomorrow night. Late night into the early morning will probably be pretty ugly.
That is the EXACT reason why it is important to pay attention during hurricane season. Felix went from a depression to cat 5 in less than 2 days. Humberto isn't going to do that, but if he had 24 more hours over water, he would be a major hurricane giving us all only about 36 hours notice. If you thought the stores and highways were insane during Rita, try evacuating that same amount of people in a shorter period of time.
Hell, it's starting to look like the entire thing will miss Houston, except for a bit on the East side.
