After watching the news and reading all of the threads... I am killing myself now to avoid the wraith of Dean.
I don't think Dean will actually go any closer to Houston...from what it looks, it's most likely heading to Mexico(sorry Mexico). *knocks on the wood* I don't think I would leave town this time...those 14 hours on road to Austin in 2005 was painful. Who knows, Dean might fall apart after hitting the Yucutan. BTW, I can't believe Erin dumped 8 to 10 inches of rain in Houston Area yesterday! Good thing, it let up in the afternoon or I wouldn't have got home at all. I live about 5 minutes from a bayou. =| Any Allison experiences? My house nearly got flooded out. Stayed home the whole time!
Aren't you in Dallas? You've got nothing to worry about. You left us high and dry here in H-town. Now get back to kissing Mark Cuban's ass.
Or you can do what this girl did . DELAND, Fla. -- An 8-year-old DeLand girl reported missing was found by police riding her bike as fast as she could to leave the state of Florida, fearing a massive Hurricane Dean was on its way. The parents of Heather Snoke reported the girl missing Wednesday night after last seeing her riding on her bike, according to a newspaper report. Volusia County sheriff's deputies searching by helicopter eventually spotted Heather about a mile from home on East Plymouth Avenue, still on her bike. She told officers that the recent news about hurricanes had scared her, and she wanted to ride her bike back home. The girl was transported back to her home and was not injured. The family recently moved to Florida from Columbus, Ohio, and her parents said she hasn't made any new friends yet, an Associated Press report said.
are you looking at the same trackers we are? more and more everyday it looks like Dean is gonna take a huge **** on Houston.
Now that I have unhitched the sarcasm wagon...I really like this site. It's a google map/tracker mash-up http://stormadvisory.org/map/atlantic/
That isn't necessarily true. Only the GFDL, which has fluctuated dramatically over the past few days (from landfalls in New Orleans to Belize) has a direct aim on us. The UKMET's latest has it going in around Victoria. The HWRF is slower, but still predicting southern Texas. Both the NOGAPS and GFS remain pointed at northern Mexico. Thus, the spread. The cone of uncertainty now includes everyone from the Texas/Louisiana border to central Mexico. That's a VERY wide range. I direct hit to Houston is no more likely than a direct hit to Tampico at this point.
Just looked at the GFS runs for 12z and it has Dean further south than the last update, driving through the Yucatan and making landfall in central Mexico. I'll be interested to see the 12z runs for the other models.
I can't remember what station I was watching last night..maybe it was fox...he took a look at all the projected paths and of course the consensus had it hitting around the Texas/Mexico border....but there was ONE that was aiming toward Houston and the guy spats out "that caught my attention in a REAL hurry." Umm, ok...way to use those scare tactics.
Man.....for an established hurricane that is moving as fast as this one is, the models sure are struggling to find consensus.
It has caught my eye as well. I'm building storm shutters this weekend. I get to cut plywood for every window of my house. I have planned on doing it for a while, but Dean is giving me some extra motivation.
I just watched the latest tropical update, Texas looks like it is right in the projected path...and depending on that low off of Florida, it may spin up the coast a bit to Houston. Anywhere from Mexico to Texas...... This could get ugly. DD
DEAN? I met a guy yesterday who lost most of his family's home during Katrina, yet he's still struggling with All State's insurance (because they were so backed up) to get his claim taken care of. If this thing hits the US it will be nice big cluster****.
