Totally agree with that. Random thought but I remember when it was 24-10 and something like 3rd and 7 for the Giants. Despite all the horrible play, we had a glimmer of hope. Mario got to Manning who let it go with Mario practically pulling him down. He just chucked it desperately toward the sideline and I think it was Jackson's guy who caught the ball with his toes just inside the line. 1st down. Jackson getting a stop there would have been his best play of the game - far better than the interception when the game was already out of reach.
What are the main issues for the Texans for you? 1. Corners 2. Lack of front 4 pressure I think part of it comes from the fact that coming into this year. . . I expected Schaub to be a Plus Player Schaub, Johnson were things that were not to be worried about and . .. .he has been good. . but . .. just not what he was last year Offense has to help the defense sometimes too. too many 3 and outs can kill a Defense. Maybe it is time for the Texans to go to the 4-6 defense Rocket River
Matt Schaub doesn't take many sacks, its hard to say he holds on to the ball for too long. David Carr on the other hand was taking 60 sacks a season. Its not comparable.
Now that I think about it, nearly every time recently we play a game on Fox 26 that I've seen it has been a loss. But overall, the team overall sucked today and felt all sorts of out of wack. AJ was bad, Schaub was bad, Mario was decent which is bad by his standards, Cushing, Foster literally the only person that played up to par was McManis because he is 4th string corner and I didn't even think he'd be active outside of Special teams. Although I will give credit to Pollard, he held his own pretty well... except for a few plays where he didn't tackle all that well.
Not just corners...entire secondary. The Giants were up 14 late in the 3rd and they were THROWING THE BALL! They did because our secondary is a disaster. Our front four is a mess. I was watching pretty closely today and Mario was getting double teamed a LOT. Smith is inconsistent and the rest of the line is patchwork. They have no depth and are playing guys that were on the street a couple weeks ago. It also doesn't help that they have few playmakers on defense to create turnovers. When you have an anemic pass rush and a poor secondary, you can make up for it with takeaways (like the Saints last year), but they don't get them. Beyond that, they need consistency from an offensive line in pass protection. They have basically been the opposite of last year - very good running the ball but mediocre in pass protection. Having said all that, they are 3-2 just like the Colts, Saints and the Packers - all Super Bowl contenders according to many. The Patriots and Jets are 3-1, but I wouldn't be shocked to see one or both at 3-2 by the end of their fifth games. San Diego is about to be 2-3. Really, only Baltimore has been consistently good this year. Everyone else has problems including the Texans, which is why I just don't think there is much to panic about at this point.
Just joking around, every team is 3-2 so it's either first or last. Texans do have the tie breaker I think so technically they may be first. I wonder if this has happened before this many games into a season that each team in a division had the same record?
OD looked a lot better today. He was almost a liability in the first few weeks, he was sooooo much better today
I sort of place Kubiak in the same category I put Wade Phillips: nice guys, excellent coordinators just not head coaching material. His team got physically manhandled again by a bigger team and I attribute that to his coaching philosophy and inability to recognize what changes need to be made. The running game before this year is such an example. His implementation of the ZBS also needs to be modified to focus more on size (linemen) and power and less on finesse and trickery. These are simply my observations as I am not a fan of the Denver system Kubiak is using and have said so from the start. As for the defense, I have a hard time understanding how it can fall so far so fast. Also: was it just me or did the Texans look the same blah way they did against the Cowboys?
Lots of knee jerk reactions in here. Texans lost to two better teams that they probably should have lost to. 3-2 is still pretty damn good!
The losses have just been devastating games where they were blow out. The team just did not look good. Rocket River
Not to be contrary here but I was under the impression from this board that David Carr was blamed for EVERYTHING that went wrong with the Texans: the dumbass coaching, poor drafting, incompetent GM, crappy OL, 250 sacks (all his fault), etc., etc. etc... I forgot to add high ticket prices and expensive food...
The Cowboys are 1-3 and are mediocre at best right now; the Giants are the very definition of mediocre, and have lost to both Indy and Tennessee this year. With both games being at home, I don't think anyone can argue the Texans *should* have lost those games. At worst, the games should have been extremely competitive, which they weren't.
So our only real change on defense from last season is Dunta Robinson. I guess Ric should have went ahead and paid him.
Just saying, but anybody notice how RocketRiver and DaDakota seem to be ALL OVER the game threads where the Texans failboat, but when they do well, they're pretty much nonexistent? What's up with that, you two? *edit: nevermind, it's pretty much just DD.
