I will be disappointed if the Texans don't dominate. It's a home game. The Hawk is back. The offensive line is rolling. Our backs are running downhill. Schaub is due a break out game. Andre may be back. New York's performance against the Bears was an aberration. The Raiders are underrated. Texans by 17.
Both were tipped balls, but one was tipped by his own player. The other bounced off a receiver and his player. Sorry, but his quick hands snaring the 2nd absolve him of the tipped ball asterisk. The first one should have been picked by the LB but Nolan had his back.
Ditto. Any INT results in a mistake somewhere for the offense. I'd actually say that INT's that are tipped at the line of scrimmage are the most forgivable for the offense.
Cush is back and hopefully Nolan get's plenty of playing time. I predict a close low scoring game. Texans 17 Giants 13
It was a bad play. He should have knocked it down. He was smart to fall down. Football is not about accumulating stats. Football is about winning. Stats usually coincide with winning, but sometimes a player gets rewarded staistically for a dumb (in this case instintual) play.
Well, if you read the post game quotes, Nolan said he was going to return it to the house, but decided to just fall over and let our offense close the game out.
It is a pet peeve of mine when a player interecepts a downfield 4th down pass. I assume that instincts take over and there is always the chance that if you knock it down, you mis-hit it right into a receiver's hands.
Boo roof to be closed. With all this great weather we've been having, you'd think they'd open it... but 83 degrees is too hot.
It seems like the roof is never open. I don't mind playing in a dome, but why pay so much extra money for a retractable roof if you never retract it?
So if Sage was going to take it to the house, going Rosencopter wouldn't have been a bad play? The Texans had the lead very late in the fourth. It was fourth down. The correct play is to knock the football down and end the drive. I do applaud him for deciding to go down after he caught it. I do applaud him for the great hands.
Like you said, it's probably just instinct. I see it as a good thing. I don't remember the last time we've had an instinctual, ballhawking safety. Once he has all of his coverages and assignments down, he's going to be one of our better players.
I just think you're being overly critical here. It's instinct buddy. Yes, the smart thing would have been to knock it down, but intercepting it and returning it 20 yards (and into Oakland territory) is NOT a bad thing. Let the offense run the game clock out (less the two minutes left in the game). Not a big deal. People just find something to gripe about.
Nolan was fine intercepting it and getting down when he saw/felt the defenders coming toward him. Nate Clements trying to setup blockers was on the other hand...not so fine.
Giants had 10 sacks against the Bears! I think it's safe to assume we'll see Schaub rolling out a lot again on Sunday. Similar to the Raiders, they're one of the top teams against the pass but closer to the bottom of the league against the run. Texans 34 Giants 27
I agree it is not a big deal. That is why I said I thought he was an improvement over the starting free safety. I regret making that side comment that it was a bad play as it has detracted from how happy I am to see him on the field. My gripe is not with Nolan as it was a small mental mistake that he made up for on the play with skill and quickly correcting the mistake. I will not say it is the right play as it wasn't.
If you watched that game, you'd see a pretty vicious pass rush from the Giants, but the Bears looked just horrible. The Oline was barely even trying, Cutler refused to throw dump passes or throw the ball away, and whoever was calling the plays refused to adjust. No NFL team should play like that, ever. The Giants only had 1 or 2 sacks in the 2nd half, after Cutlter went out and they stopped calling ridiculous plays. Their pass rush is good, but not 10 sacks good. I'd say they get about 3 sacks on Schaub. We'll be mostly running anyways.
10 sacks, but the majority of them were on Cutler. If you watched the game, you would have seen that Cutler kept trying to look for the big play. THose three step drops also weren't working. What the Texans should do on the first play is a HB Screen, because those Giants defenders are going to be coming. Then, maybe more plays out of the shotgun and less QB rollouts.
