Why? Because he didn't spend all his money in FA, choosing instead to finally bring up the young guys and give 'em their due. We're facing some pretty tough pitching in the early going with some inexperienced players...things might look pretty bad before they start to look good.
The Giants have some pretty fat players...Pablo Sandoval, Mollina, Juan Uribe.. I like their team though, that pitching staff can shut teams down if they make it to the playoffs
Im not opposed to bring up young guys, but it is quite evident that drayton no longer has any desire to bring a winning ball club to town since he is looking to sell the team. There's nothing in it for him to spend on FA if he is looking to get rid of the team. So, from his point of view, its not that he's giving the young guys their due...its that he doesnt want to spend any money because he could care less about the future of the team.
He may not want to admit it to the fans, but let's be realistic. We made some horrible decisions in the past that has haunted our farm system. Right now, were just working on getting it back to a respectable level, and you DON'T do that by signing type A free agents and losing draft picks. Everyone knew this year would be a tough year, but were finally making strides to getting our farm system close to where it needs to be.
probably the ball game right there; really could've used a clutch hit by Lee to bring it to 3-2. I guess there's solace in the fact that it's pretty much over in time to watch the Butler-Duke game.
I think this is closer to reality than Drayton simply not caring about fielding a good product. Technically he's not selling the team, he's just keeping his eyes and ears open if a good offer comes along. But he hasn't ever said the team is for sale. Obviously though the writing's on the wall, and sooner or later we'll have a new owner...but that could still be years away.
