at some point you would think the Astros have a bench clearing brawl. i mean...one team can only take so much punishment from another team (in this case, SF). unfortunately, the astros always seem willing to lay down to their SF counterparts. it's like the "thank you sir...may i have another" mentality.
It doesn't matter. With a season full of ZERO expectations, only a couple of young guys to watch, as long as Plaxico Burr..err I mean Sammy Gervacio still does the "Show ball trick" everytime he steps out there I'm happy. He can stand on the mound and face the batter, then turn around and throw the ball over the crawford boxes himself for a homerun for all I care, JUST as long as he does his signature move...its that hilarious.
<---Keeps saying...it's ok, Giants have a great rotation...Berkman is injuried...Starting pitching was good...86-73 is still possible
Starting pitching will keep us in games that our bats actually show up, but we don't have the offense to build big enough leads for the bullpen not to blow more often than not. You're not going to win many games where the opposing 1/2 hitters go 9 for 11.
You keep saying that like everyone does every year and the Astros will end up 62-100 this year or worse.
I am very worried with the Stros playing the Cards, Phillies and Cubs that we could be 0-12. I imagine we would win a couple games but 3-9 or 2-10 is possible.
I don't like it when I have to start the football countdown early... but it looks like I have no choice this summer.
This team needs to take its lumps and just have an outright bad season. I'm tired of mediocre seasons because they give false hope and makes us keep subpar players on this team. The best thing for this team is to let Berkman retire or trade him, to give some development time to his eventual backup, whoever it may be next year (Clemens, Locke, Gaston, Johnson). Trade Lee this year or next year because that window will trade window will close after that. We have plenty of outfield depth to replace him. If this makes Roy upset, trade him as well. The idea is to basically clean house on all the old guys and get some fresh new talent in here. I know some people are going to say, you can't trade Lance Berkman or Roy, they are Astros lifers. Well let me ask you this then, do you think keeping those two around is helping the astros win any games 2 seasons from now? The answer is no. Lance blocks whatever slugger we could plug into that spot to be ready by that time and Roy might still be able to pitch but past his prime and really injury prone. I say take what you can get for those two. It might make you horrible for a year or two but the future reward would be much greater. As long as this team has a high payroll, its going to be hard for drayton to sell the team as well.
I think Roy will be the first to go, he has spoken up the last few years about playing for a contender and he can still be a dominant #2 so his value can be maximized. I think Puma should be traded but there is NOTHING behind him so he really isn't blocking anyone, that said, If they fall way back by June they should call the Red Sox. Myers, Feliz and even Wandy should all be in different uniforms by the deadline if we are out of it.
Seriously though our farm system might be near the bottom right now but if Drayton and Wade get there **** together it can get good quick. I realize Oswalt/Berkman/Lee have no trade clauses, but what player in there right mind would not want a trade out of Houston to a contender. If they can somehow get rid of 2 of the three and capitalize on this years draft we will be in MUCH better shape.
