yep, but if Biggio or Berkman gets thrown at, everyones in an uproar. What about good ole "steroid" Bagwell, theres as much evidence convicting him of steroids as Bonds. (Which is 0 by the way) And why isn't Berkman accused of taking steroids? You can play the accusation game with everyone.
while I don't agree with an intentional hits batsman at all, I want to believe that this is being blown out of proportion (or is it just the homer inside me?). This was ONLY the 3rd time it has been Springer vs Bonds, yet it seems to be over-analyzed. If Springer has something against Bonds or absolutely did not want to be a part of history, I don't think you can draw conclusions from the two previous meetings even if it was a HR and HBP. also, Bonds scorched us with singles when we pitched away. Isn't he known not to be as effective pitched up and in? Hence, the pitch locations by Springer (NOT at Bonds' head as someone else stated). AND, if you REALLY wanted to nail someone, wouldn't you throw fastballs instead of sliders? If Springer really wanted to hit him, would it really have taken 5 pitches to do so? just something to think about before making premature judgements....
1) Thats coz they are our players 2) I notice you are on a message board, which mean you can read, but this Bonds comment borders on ignorance 3) Lance? Old article for ya: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/stories/2002-07-10-steroids-berkman.htm Berkman: Weight work, no steroids By Rod Beaton, USA TODAY MILWAUKEE — Lance Berkman admits he takes additives. "Pizza," the Houston Astros slugger says. He says he does not take steroids, never has, never will. His 29 home runs and 81 RBI this season were generated organically. "I'll lift weights after a game," he says. "We (Astros) have a great strength and conditioning coach." He says those reasons help explain his sudden arrival among the game's best power hitters. "I don't take vitamins," he says. "My diet is not the greatest. I'll eat a piece of pizza." He also takes a slice of pitches. He has punished pitching since he starred at Rice University through 1997. It took him just 287 games in the minors to reach the majors and to start there with immediate expectations. "Usually, you break in to bat sixth or seventh if you're a power hitter," Berkman says. "Dirk (former Astros manager Larry Dierker) put me in the four-hole right away. I had to learn on the fly. You hit fourth or fifth in a lineup, you are expected to be a run producer, score runs and drive in runs." He does all that and, because he does that with a massive body (6-1, 205), people talk. "If you're a little bit fat like I am, people will say it's steroids," Berkman says. "You can't do anything about it so you do your best. There were guys who hit a lot of home runs long before steroids came along. If someone wants me to take a test, I'll take one. ... I know I'm clean. "People say 50% of players are on steroids. I think that is ridiculous, but obviously there are people who take steroids and play major league baseball. People try to cheat all the time."
Very un-Astros like thing for Springer to do. I hope Bagwell and Biggio read him the riot act when he went back into the dugout.
What? I think the pitchers need to get tougher. Bonds crowds the plate like there is no tomorrow. Oswalt will back you off, Clemens will too..... Maybe Springer is telling Bonds that his cheating is not welcome. Riot act? I would bet he was applauded in the Stros clubhouse. If Lidge would throw inside more often batters would not be so comfortable. DD
I can't believe the AP is reporting Springer received a standing ovation. What a effin embarassment on national TV. I agree, if you're afraid of Bonds, walk him. If you feel Bonds is crowding, move him off the plate (it only takes one pitch). Every one of Springer's pitches was at Bonds. I don't buy it wasn't intentional. Even the worst MLB pitcher has "good" control. I wouldn't blame Bonds if he charged the mound.
first of all let me say that there is no way that the hit on bonds was unintentional, i mean everyone saw it comming, but i cant believe the national media is blowing it out of proportions, so wat if he got hit, its a part of the game. Bonds got hit by a guy on the downend of his career and doesnt make a appearance untill the game is basically over.......... i cant beileve they devoted 10 min on sportscenter for this stuff.
Bonds has cheated the game, and the fans, and his arrogant A$$ deserves everything he gets. He didn't throw at his head. Did he do it intentionally, it sure looks like it. The Stros pitchers were getting blasted, I have NO problem with them fighting back. Way to go SPRINGER !! DD
Could you imagine the uproar on here if that was an Astro at bat? It was Bush league. There is no place in the game for something like that.
Hell yes. Because they are our players. Even money odds that Biggio gets plunked the first time up tonight.
Every player in the game have probably been hit intentially once in their career so why is it such a big deal when Bonds get hit? but i agree that somebody from the astros will get hit in the game today
i've defended Bonds from the insane crap thrown at him throughout this whole thing. i have no problem with springer throwing at him. bonds struts and shows people up. he's arrogant as hell. guys like that get plunked. much nicer guys than barry bonds get plunked.
There is nothing wrong with throwing at a player if you have a problem with him. The only problem is if you throw at his head. That is one of baseball's unwritten rules.
So all arrogant players are candidates to get plunked at any time? I could understand if he had hit a HR earlier in the game and stood there to admire it. He didn't. He beat us by hitting RBI singles. I don't like this at all. He did nothing to provoke this last night. If we want to just start hitting players for being arrogant, well, that's going to be a lot of ejections. This league is full of arrogant players. I guess Jeff Kent should have been thrown at when he was here. I fully expect all of you to not b**** whenever someone like Clemens gets thrown at only because of his personality.
lance z was talking about players policing themselves. how was that policing. then he said its the same thing in the nba when someone is getting to the rim. I can't stand that logic. you're getting your arse handed to you so you knock someon down? ridiculous.
