Great decision by McHale to go small with Terry basically losing us the game and D-Mo on the bench. Not.
Question to Daryl: how many superstars does Atlanta have? Spoiler One. Once again that feeling when the game comes tied in the end, that the Rockets are the less prepared team and the more susceptible of committing mistakes. Playoff games. When coaching matters.
Most of their wins are against the sorry ass eastern conference Not excusing McHale but don't let this teams win record fool you. If they were in the West, they would be getting their heads handed to them
Today I got time Cuz. Playoffs can't get here any sooner. All I want is my 5 thousand dollars from Jtr. And of course, a donation to Clutch if you still want to be a member on here.
Oh goody. This thread again. You'd think after firing McHale on the internet for 3+ years hasn't gotten him fired in real life, fans would get the message.
Rockets needed those two home wins badly. The rest of the month is going to be tough. It looks like the SOS kept us afloat but reality might be kicking in soon.
Not hard to predict the simpletons coming out in droves calling for coach's head after an unexpected loss from an overachieving team. Every loss is on the coach in their mind.
Well said. McHale confuses me at times with his decisions regarding the rotations (and other things), but I wouldn't call for his head because of a game like this. We would have had to have played a damned near perfect game to win this one. After all, the Rockets were playing against two teams. Atlanta and the refs.
...and this is why I shook my head when people saying McHale is suddenly a good coach. He's just a poor coach - not much has changed. Laughable how Morey thinks McHale is a coach of the year candidate. The Hawks offense looks so much smoother.
McHale got out coached but McHale has out coached some this season. Hope he watches some film tonight
The Rockets were more than due to lose a close game. We've had the coin flip our way a bunch of times this season. Unfortunately we are now due for a regression to the mean
WRONG! You forgot about this guy, he played really well for the Hawks last night. Spoiler Mchale made his adjustments, had the Rockets in this game then that guy took over with some really clutch plays for the Hawks. Get er done Morey. Trade for him, was more clutch than Harden last night.
Kevin McHale is in his 4th season as Rockets' head coach. The team underachieved last season. But I think it's fair to say that they've been overachieving in the other 3 seasons with McHale. The Rockets finished with a winning record in 2011-12 when nobody expected it. They made the playoffs in 2012-13 when they had no business doing it. And so far this season, they're fighting for one of the upper seeds when so many prognosticators had them pegged as an 7th or 8th seed out west. I don't know why people are so hard on McHale. He coaches within the restrictive parameters of a Daryl Morey team. His players clearly love him. And for the most part, his teams overachieve. I don't get the hate.
You can blame our lackluster appearances at home squarely on Les Alexander. We have no home-court edge, fans do not get up for games in Houston and the ones who do attend usually hit the exits to avoid traffic before the 4th quarter is over regardless of what the score is. This is a marketing problem and poor business decisions on the part of the Rockets ownership. Les would rather make an extra 15-20 million a year vs targeting his real audience to sell tickets and create a real home-court advantage. Watch OKC and Memphis if you want examples on how to sell tickets to people who care about the team.
1. He replaced a popular coach in Adelman. 2. He had a bad reputation as a GM in Minnesota, and therefore can't coach because GM = Coach I guess? Maybe Morey should be GM-Coach? 3. Jeremy Lin stopped being Linsanity 4. Jeremy Lin stopped starting 5. Portland series (this is probably the only time I truly hated him, otherwise I've felt he was anywhere between meh~good) 6. At this point, I think it's just inertia. Everything bad that happens to the Rockets must be his fault because it's easy to point fingers at one person instead of trying to think deeper on issues
McHale at his best is a tolerable sufferance. He's mediocre. His players run the team, both Harden and Howard probably have more say over roster moves and strategy than he does. He doesn't rule his players, they rule him. In this respect, McHale is no different than Mike Brown was when Brown coached Cleveland and Lebron. McHale is a yes-man, he answers orders from Morey but also to his own players which is not what a good head coach does. For us to have a good head coach would mean that our players would have to be "coachable", which I think Harden is but Dwight isn't (see Stan Van Gundy). Dwight is the main reason we won't get another coach, he came here because he wanted McHale as his coach and McHale let's him run all over him. If we bring in another guy who preaches more discipline and strategy then Dwight will probably leave again which will effect Les Alexander's pocket book. And, we all know that Les only cares about money and not the state of his team.
