Honestly, there was a stretch where I thought Mchale was COY worthy but as of late, his small ball, full r****d mode has got me to retract my previous statement.
Yeah. He has no trust in Lin to lead a bench unit when that's how he rose to fame last year and actually was able to win a bunch of games for his team back then. I understand not doing it at the beginning of the season because they have to learn to play together but not doing it during this must win game was a headscratcher.
Staggering them, Lin and the team will perform very well (which has been proved several times this season). I can only speculate that the coach would rather lose than admit wrongness. They cut Lin last year then Linsanity was born; they asked Harden to play the point for most of the season and then it becomes apparent there is a better PG out there.
Probably the most rational speculation I have ever been privaledged to read. You are really on to something.
Imagine a brand new team. It's loaded with stars like Lebron James and lesser stars like Kyrie Irving. Imagine an idiot who can't coach worth crap coached this team. This team made the playoffs. Do we give an extension on his contract for the sole reason the team made playoffs? "Yes we're the youngest team in the league, blah blah" -no, we have a top 3 SG and the best rebounding center in the league.
Do you really blame it on Harden when McHale has a long prior rap sheet of not getting along with players? Danny Ainge was so wrong about hiring a HOF as a headcoach will benefit a team crap. McHale, with his HOF title, probably has an ego the size of Texas and it's ruinng the confident and clashing w/ our young players. Last year he blamed it on short season for not getting along with certain players. How many more players will want out?
Man could McHale be a better GM with the Wolves than a coach with the Rockets? At least he traded for Kevin Love and dumped Mayo.
I will say this again. There is a noticeable dropoff in the quality of Houston Rockets Coaches. Compare and Contrast: Rudy T (Multiple Championships, Multiple Playoff Stints, Rockets Coaching Legend) , Jeff Van Gundy ( Finals Appearance, Multiple Playoff Stints with the Knicks) , Rick Adelman ( Multiple Finals Appearances, Multiple Playoff Stints with Kings and Blazers, Hall of Fame Career) from that to Kevin Mchale ( incremental winning percentage increase for the timberwolves still losing team, no past playoff experience as coach, no finals appearance as coach . ). There is a noticeable dropoff if not nosedive in the quality of coaching the Houston Rockets have been able to acquire. The timberwolves organization hiring Kevin Mchale and homerism of Minnesota fans is understandable because he is from Minnesota but to this day it is still head scratching why Houston Rockets made such a hire.
Lol youth.... You know who else is young? The Denver Nuggets, Karl don't mess around with these young guys, and they respect him for it, as seen on the Association. Lawson/Gallo/Faried/Chandler is basically their core.
I've defended McHale all year... but I'm on the bandwagon. Not because we lost tonight, we could have lost regardless, but the decisions time and time again are poor. He's not utilising our players to their strengths and is exposing our player's weaknesses. I mean the huge one tonight Delfino on Gasol is outrageous. I would have preferred Dmo on Gasol and that still would have been a bad idea. Lin should control the ball more, and lead more when Harden is on the bench, instead its the other way around. He expects Harden to heroball. I keep hearing time and time again people blaming Harden for ISOs and so on. The only reason its happening non-stop is because of direction from the coach. If McHale really didn't direct it then it wouldn't be happening straight out of timeouts and Harden would be getting pulled from too many ISOs if it wasn't what he wanted! McHale is directing these stupid plays (if you can call them plays) not the players. How many times has he burned a good thing during a game? For someone who uses "riding the hot hand" he only does this some of the time. Seen him pull many players who just started getting red hot (not just Lin). How much of this though is on the assistants too? I doubt McHale is responsible for all aspects of team play, and I doubt it's just McHale giving instructions on defense and offense.... need to really rectify this for next year or else we certainly won't improve much even with an upgrade at PF or whatever.
The way I see it, there is no way (no fckin way ...) that Morey will replace Mchale as HC. Cmooon let's face it, we just get our first postseason berth in four seasons. So unless the guy himself resign then I guess we will stuck with McFail for 2-3 more seasons. Ohhh s h i t
The only reason Mchale was hired is because of the Boston Celtics fraternity of which Daryl Morey and Danny Ainge belong. They're a pretty close nit group and lording it over in Houston now. How else to explain the " nosedive " "jump-off-the-cliff" disparity from Rudy T, JVG, Rick Adelman to Kevin Mcfail.
