My stream screwed up during part of the games demonstration, so I didn't get to see everything. What I saw looked great though (outside of the boring GTHD demo...and maybe Genji). As I mentioned, I liked that they will be including a HDD in every console, and the network stuff look nice (along with the system interface). Obviously, they ripped off Nintendo, but I don't really care. Just makes for better games I guess; Warhawk did look pretty interesting. It will be interesting to see how developers treat the PS3 compared to the 360 and Wii (how will ports be done?). Now for the bad news...$500 and $600. Yeah, I'm not too thrilled about that announcement...actually a little surprised they even announced it considering how high the price tag is (should have only announced it if it was more "affordable"). Sure, that's not a bad price considering what you're getting, but I don't like those price tags for a game console. I can perfectly understand people not wanting to pay that much. I'm starting to get second-thoughts myself to be honest. That said, the sad thing is that it will still probably sell out worldwide, and that's assuming Sony can even hit those figures they announced. Someone will pay $500-$600 for a PS3.
some pics of the event from JoyStiq along with an appearence of "Virtural" Tmac PSP emulator of PSone a must for every asian, a kareoke program called "Singstar" VIRTUAL TMAC!!! MGS4
to be honest if i can get my hands on one for even 500, i'd probably end up getting it. BUT. If anyoen thinks their getting one for 499, it's gonna be hard to find at that price... think eBay and 499x4
i dont understand why people here are bashing sony's price tag for their next gen console. you'll pay $500 for a 360 premium and wouldn't pay $500 for a ps3 with 20 gig hd and more? there's no logic when the prices are pretty much the same...yet the people who paid $400-$500 for a 360 are saying sony's console is too expensive....
If I could hook up a keyboard and use the ps3 as a home computer as well then that would be a bit more reasonable.
how do i preorder more than one? im going to run around eb games and try to preorder a few of them under different names =P when the ps3 is released...ebay 2 and keep one.
The 360 was more like $300-$400, unless you're talking about eBay. If you want to compare things, then I agree that the PS3 could possibly be called a "great value" at that price. Blu-ray, included HD, free online services, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc., plus all the great games (Heavenly Sword, FFXIII, MGS4, etc.) for $500-$600 is nice. But then again, that's $500-$600 for a game console. The PS3 is supposed to support M&KB in games, so I guess you could do that. If Sony pushes this idea for the PS3, it might seem a little more reasonable. More like a PC than a game console. And $500 for a PC that plays games like that is a bargain. Well, that's what I'm telling myself anyway. Too bad I just got a new PC.
probably the reason is this, Xbox360 is bound to go down in price by the time PS3 comes out. Everything that has been shown hasn't really impressed us to where its the superior console which in all acounts, really is by default because its coming out a year later. Its a risk for Sony, they are going for all the marbles in this move. They are not really attracting the age groups (up to 20 years old) in which made video games they are today. The system they are releasing is basically for the elder crowd, than can spend the dough. Lots of us here can buy it, but at the same time, there are cheaper alternatives out there in which wouldn't lighten our pocket. Lots of people shelled out the cash for the 360 because thats all that was avaliable at that time, which was a smart move on Microsoft. Look at the past few systems. PSone came out first before the N64 and they won that battle. PS2 came out before Xbox/Gamecube and the pretty much won that battle. Yes, I understand that Saturn and Dreamcast came out before all of them but they didn't really have a good plan in the beginning. I'm not really taking any sides here. I'm actually Xbox, PSP, GBA, and Dreamcast owner, so I'm not really a fanboy for any brand. I was looking forward to maybe getting a PS3, corelate it with my PSP, but this price is outrgeous, i'll just wait for a price drop.
the 360 price tag was 300 and 400 respectively..so that's a pretty big $200 difference. I'm not even content with spending that much, which is why I'm waiting for a little price drop on the system (hopefully when Halo 3 comes out). 500 and 600 for a game console is just too much...unless you're buying it more than just as a gaming device, which I wouldn't be.
OK, if I am understanding this correctly, Sony screwed up even more. The $500 version isn't just the $600 with a 20GB HDD instead of a 60GB HDD. The $500 does not have HDMI, no WiFi, and no ports for MemoryStick /SD/CompactFlash. Ouch.
FREE POST b*stard!!! heh, btw, thats pretty dumb Blu-Ray have an option where you can play it without HDMI? Weird....
I honestly didn't think Sony would let the price get that high. Puts a lot of thing in perspective. Especially if what you just posted is true, RC. Remember the debate we had on how it was a 'mistake' just because MS was going to put a few 360 Core systems out there? Yeah. I'm still stunned they are trying to rip Nintendo off. Guess they realized they were on to something.
The PS3 doesn't need to be connected to your cable internet to connect to the internet? And it's free?
That explains it. I went to ebgames and they are selling xbox 360's for $400-$500, thats why I didn't think it was such a big deal between the PS3. I still think its a good price. There's alot of pro and cons vs the 360...but im too lazy to do the research and list them all.
