Yeah, you might want to check out the 15 minute trailer sometime. Here are some links in case you need them: http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/e3_2006/ (navigate menus until you find the trailer under MGS4) http://download.yousendit.com/69AD1AAE5D77FB85 http://download.yousendit.com/7358826C5408D1D4 (download from both links above) I guess I can't promise that you'll feel better about Raiden after watching that, but he is involved in a very nice action sequence. The only problem is that there is no HD version of that trailer. I hate Konami sometimes. They did the same thing with the last MGS4 trailer.
Question: Can Wi-Fi work with Satellite connection? I mean, because, the place I'm moving to has no cable, DSL, or nothing. What kind of connection can Wi-Fi work with?
Impressions of the trailers: I do not like the way Snake looks, he's too old, especially compared to all the other main characters. The look of the Metal Gears is cool, but the animal "calls" they make and the fact that they spew blood are both rather stupid. They're machines. And it looks like the series hasn't lost a beat in the droning rhetoric department. All said, I was more impressed and hyped after watching the first trailer a year ago. And the Halo 3 trailer rocked, even though it didn't reveal next to anything.
I imagine they are supposed to be gen-engineereed dinosaur/machine hybrids, which is fine with me as it gives it a little bit to distinguish it from the 8 zillion other mech VG portrayals. regarding H-3, supposedly you can garner some hints, or so Bungie has said. Obviously regarding the Ark, plus the fact that the Cortana letters from way back have the same quotes from the trailer, and the fact that you can't see any legs sticking out of the back of the banshees, if they are indeed banshees...which don't happen to be attacking M.C.
Is the Halo 3 trailer you guys are talking about the one where Master Chief walks up to a giant crater with clouds swirling over the top, only to have the explosion and subsequent giant beam of light shoot up through the sky? Because there wasn't much to it and I really wasn't all that impressed...is there another out there?
Snake looks the same as he did last year. Besides, I'm sure there is a VERY good reason for why he looks like that. Use your imagination. As Sam said, the MGs aren't completely machines. I forgot the exact explanations, but they're part machine, part organism. Also, I believe Kojima explained that the "moo" noise that they make is so that a sense of calm in created. This calm confuses those listening, giving the MG time to crush them. Or something like that. It seemed to make sense to me when I read it the first time.
No that is it. The impressive part is not so much the events or the plot clues, but the graphics if you watch them in HD. Supposedly that is what they look like in realtime gameplay.
Maybe I wasn't seeing them in HD, they just didn't seem all that impressive to me. I mean, they were good, but not so much better than what I saw from Halo 2 as to make me all excited about this game.
I wouldn't doubt the Halo graphics. MGS4 looked better IMO, and a few other PS3 titles had some impressive realtime demonstrations as well. Assuming the two systems are close to equal in power, I'm sure Bungie could reach those graphics for Halo 3, at least for cutscenes. And that's without taking Bungie's word on it.
I'm sure you can hook up a wireless router to a satellite connection but satellite connections generally don't provide enough bandwith to play online.
wow, the screens look incredible. Speaking of awe-inspiring FPS screenshots...whatever happened to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.? Anyody know? They were wowing people with screens from that game back in 2002, it was one of the most anticipated games of 2004, but 4 years later it's still in limbo - talk about flushing momentum down the toilet.
Well, I didn't like the way he looked last year either . And I do imagine there's an explanation for it, accelerated aging or something...but still, I dont mind playing a 40-50 year old snake with battles scars and graying hair; that would be cool in fact. But I don't really wanna play an old man. And that does make sense about the metal gears, but it still sounds a little weird. Well I did read the plot details but if they're were hints in the trailer I didn't really pick up on 'em. I kinda blew off the fact that the banshees werent attacking him, but I guess there's an actual explanation. And what are these Cortana letters; were they seperate from the games because I haven't read anything from the expanded universe.
That doesn't look too comfortable and is really a step back in design. I really hope they also offer a cradle version of the gamecube controller.
They were how Bungie announced the development of Halo 1 back in 1999 or so, not extended universe but straight from Bungie (circuitously). http://halosm.bungie.org/story/cortanaletters.html
Wow, a lot of you guys are jumping off the Sony bandwagon b/c the launch price is too high? Let me make this simple and to the point. First of all, lets look at the main content that you will be getting and what its actually worth in terms of manufacturing/production cost. A Blu-Ray player at the moments will cost you between $600-$1000 and will probally remain this much until next summer since its a new technology that hasn't scratch the surface yet. This mean that Sony is losing close to $400 with each PS3 thats coming off the assembly line...so with a price of between $499-$600, that is a damn good price tag if you ask me. Secondly, with the way Sony has been generating hype for years now, good or bad depending on how you look at it, along with already establishing themselves as a house hold name in video games all while taking notice of the 360s selling out worldwide it would be a pretty dumb move to make the initial launch price cheaper then $499. Wether you want to admit it or not, the PS3 will sell out in ways that is much worse then the 360 b/c of the strong fanbase in Japan, not just in the US and Europe and with only 2million unit shipped worldwide. So really, the high price tag will just be an after thought until the sales starts to slow down where we get to see more PS3 in the stores. The thing is, it will be a very long time before it starts to slow down while Sony cleverly, start cashing off of its high price system in its first year. When it does start to slow down or gets stagnant, no problem, they will just do an annual price slash to balance things out just like what they've been doing since the PS1. I admit, it looks intimidating at first and I thought Sony screwed up but if you look at the whole picture, its actually a smart move by Sony. A lot of people are going to take sides and bash Sony, but really, I couldn't be happier for them. It's a new system that comes with a ton of stuff(Hard-drive, Blu-Ray movie player, memory stick slot,HDMI) and does a lot of things. A lot of it really depends if you have an HDTV or not. Some people are saying that DVDs are just fine and HD-DVD or Blu-Ray aren't that much better. Those people are full of sh*T and don't have an HDTV. I've seen HDTV compared to regular TV and even DVD and there's a ridiculous difference. The fact that you can get a Blu-Ray player, which by itself will cost around $1000 on top of the PS3. Still, the 360 seems cheap by comparison now. I wonder how Microsoft feels about it. Do they think that it's great that the PS3 is more expensive than their system, or does Microsoft wish they would have made the 360 more expensive so that they could have made an extra $100 per system, since they would have still sold out anyway? I maybe sound like a fanboy having own the PS1&2, but I'm talking in a purely business stand point. In fact I won't be getting the PS3 until the end of its life cycle since I've already made my decision to go with the 360 b/c one, its the first one out of the gate and secondly, I wanted to experience something different other then a Sony...but I will continue to support them since they've pretty much given me what I've wanted as far as video games are concerned. I will miss the MGS,FF and DMC series, but I also will be experiencing some cool franchise for the first time in Halo,Ninja Gaiden,PGR and The Elder Scrolls Now for the games at E3, here's a brief rundown of what I thought were the best and the most disappointing of the demo/trailer that I've seen so far... Best trailer- 1. GOW(from Live)- Wow, this game is hands down head and shoulders above the rest in terms of the overall package...graphics,actual gameplay and sound. It just keeps on looking better everytime with a more stable frame rate now which I thought needed some tweaking. As the old saying goes, the graphics won't mean much if it doesn't have great gameplay to boot. 2. MGS4- No intoduction needed for this game since its probally the biggest game of the show...again.The reason why I put this below GOW was b/c it was purely a cinematic movie, running in real time at 60fps nontheless. Its pure eye candy bliss and the most technically advance showing(just watch last yrs tech demonstration), that alone earns the number 2 spot. 3. Halo3- Sure its short but the presentation was beautiful along with the music and that really got me pumped for more. Best of all its in real-time! I honestly though we would see some cgi stuff for Halo 3, glad I was wrong. If the gameplay has graphics that are similiar to those 2 minute footage...GOW, watch out! 4. Alan Wake- This is probally my most anticipated release and I like the overall feel of the game. I'm itching to learn more about its gameplay and story. All we know for sure is that you're an adventurer traveling to different towns to find clues and the landscape are beautiful in this game. This could be the 360 answer to Silent Hill. Disappointing demo/trailers 1. SC4- It was almost depressing watching this one b/c I had such high hope considering what the 360 can do. First of all, I hate it when developer mixes both cgi and real-time footage together...it just ruins the atmosphere and mood for me. You either make it all cgi or all in-game. SC4 was the victim of this in the worst way. It started out as cgi and when they show the game-play footage, it looks like crap(compared to the cgi). Maybe its me, but the gameplay parts looks like a more souped up xbox version(chaos theory). Some parts looks good and other parts looks bland, but I expect it to look a whole lot better...like those screens(rainy/jail shots) a couple of months back. Worst of all the stiff/jerky animation is back which I thought 360 would've fix that. Unless the devolpers could surprise me on the final release, I guess we can look forward to its gameplay only. 2. NBA2K7- Another disappointment from one of my favorite developers. I can't even tell the diffrence from the last release other then stadium which looks slightly better. It seems like the players faces are identicle to last year's which wasn't that accurate to began with. Something is wrong when you make Steve Nash look like a walking zombie. They also need to lay off on the "flowing" jersey. Its exgeratted to much. If you watch a real game, the jerseys barely move in real time. 3. Tekken 6- This game looks like ass and I'm a big fan of Tekken. Seriously, what is wrong with Namco making games that are soo old school and obsolete(Ridge Racer)? Soul Calibur is their only saving grace and I hope they don't bucher that game in the new generation.
I guarantee that if Sony removed Blu-Ray from the PS3 to bring the price down to a more palpable $300-$400, everyone would be overjoyed, and few people would complain. Sony included Blu-Ray because it wants to pimp its own format, in a move to further the company's own agenda and shove the technology down our collective throats. So, don't feel bad for Sony. You reap what you sow. The company deserves everything coming to it for releasing a freaking $600 gaming console. Ever heard of an add-on? Microsoft has.
