I know it's a little late but: Yes TJ lets his emotions get the best of him too often, getting boneheaded personal foul calls. No he should not have taunted in any case. However, the Trent Green block looked like a chop. If you look at the review, TJ also landed awkwardly on his head/neck and could have also easily ended his career or at least suffered a serious injury. Almost looked like a cartwheel done by a 300 lber...scary stuff. Him taunting (both in-game AND post-game) was uncalled for. But Trent Green shouldn't have been attempting the block in the first place. OH: AND KRIS BROWN IS GOD!
I don't know if anyone caught the douche comments of Rich "The Cannot" Gannon saying that "defensive linemen go look for that QB after a scramble of defensive play like an interception or a fumble or a reverse... dummy didn't see that it was Trent Green that was throwing himself at TJ, and didn't even retract his comments. If this doesn't throw gas on fire to the already animated discussion going on here, I don't know what will. I don't know if it's worse that TG threw himself willingly at a defensive lineman, or the commentator making stupid comments when he wasn't watching the play. Automatically, it's the defensive lineman "kneeing the quarterback"... I am not talking about TJ's taunt... he got correctly penalized... Anyone catch this beside me?
TG threw what looked like an illegal block, which could have seriously injured TJ....instead, he hurt himself. TJ looked kind of bad with that taunt, but he had every right to be pissed off. I know, I just repeated what 90% of the people in here have said I'm sure.
Green's been playing professional football for what, 15 years? I would bet he knows what a chop block is; his form just sucked.
He does have every right to be pissed, but he should realize that he was okay after the block and Green was the one hurting. There is a much more tactful way of doing/saying things. But TJ is a thug, cant really expect much from him.
I think he really wanted to get out of the way, but he didnt want to look like a puss in front of everyone, so he just tried to duck and avoid major contact. Unfortunately, a knee from a 300 pounder to the side of the head kinda hurts.
You know what the worst thing about what TJ did is... It's taking away attention of the win and what Kris Brown did today. Like... How many of ya'll heard that Kris Brown's foot was hurt? He had to take a shot at halftime... He did that injured.
In those 15 years, how many times do you think he's made an open-field block? How many times in practice do you think he's worked on blocking technique? I'm sure he knows what it is - but I seriously doubt that in that moment, he really knew what he was doing outside of trying to get in TJ's way to block him away from Ted Ginn. Unfortunately, like you said, his form for doing it was terrible and it resulted in a dangerous play for both him and TJ.
i really don't think tj would have taunted had he known the injury was serious. in the heat of the moment you don't always realize what's going on. he's stupid for potentially blowing the game, but i don't think he's this monster that people will make him out to be. well he could be, but i wouldn't base it on that play.
any reason why a flag wasn't thrown against trent green for the chop block? i thought it was pretty apparent that he hit johnson right at the knee. some might say there's no need to add insult to injury, but the reality is that block is illegal, dangerous, at worst malicious, and at best careless.
i posted earlier in the thread that it was heat of moment etc, and didn't fault TJ. That was before I saw the post game rant, so I can't defend him now.
what TJ did was pretty crappy but in a sense I can SEE where he's coming from. it was a pretty low and sloppy block that caused Johnson to almost land on his head. he shot up and probably was unaware of the damage to Green. I won't say he DESERVED a concussion but his attempt at blocking was garbage. i think with more time to think it over Johnson will feel bad about it all and bygones should be bygones
"At 12:01, I had a lot of respect for Trent Green. At about 12:20, I said, '(Forget) Trent Green,' because the bottom line is it was a malicious hit," Johnson said. "It was uncalled for. He's like the scarecrow. He wanted to get courage while I wasn't looking and hit me in my knee instead of trying to hit me in my head." ... "My knee ain't never hurt like it hurt today," Johnson said. "The bottom line is football is not about that. If you want to hit me, hit me in my head, hit me in my chest; don't hit me in my knee. "I'm trying to eat just like everybody else. So to hit me like that, that showed me what type of man he was." ... Said Kubiak: "First off, what (Johnson) did is unacceptable, inexcusable. I'm not sitting here making any excuses for him. That's inexcusable. He felt like he got chopped pretty good, which we have to go back and look at the film. He was frustrated. Players worry about their legs when they get cut in certain situations. (But) his reaction was wrong." ... Given additional time to calm down, Johnson — at the urging of Texans officials — readdressed the incident and his reaction. Roughly 20 minutes after his initial tirade, Johnson showed contrition for his behavior and remorse for the fallout from his actions. "I apologize for going off like that," Johnson said. "As a D-lineman, when you have people going at your knees, it's tough on you mentally. But at the same time, I shouldn't have reacted like that. I'm sorry the penalty ended up leading to a score. ''I ended up hurting my team," Johnson said. ''I shouldn't have let my anger get to me. I apologized to coach Kub because I hurt my team. I should have kept my cool. But being in that situation, this is a game of controlled violence. Really, I let my anger get the best of me." http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/5195677.html <hr> In retrospect after reading this, I can't say I blame TJ for being pissed, and I can see why he reacted like he did. That said, the taunting penalty was warranted. On the other hand, maybe there should have been two penalties on the play, one on Green for a chop block, in addition to the taunting penalty that was called on TJ.
Great game yesterday. Actually, it wasn't but, like Chester says, I'll take an ugly win over a pretty loss any time. Schaub really played pretty good. He had no running game and his 2 best WR's were out again, yet he managed to put us in postion to win almost all by himself. I like that he and Owen Daniels have really turned into a nice 1-2 punch. I don't understand why teams don't throw to the TE more often. Anyway, I went to the game and was surrounded by Dolphin fans for some reason, but they were all pretty classy, so I couldn't hate on them. Even when they scored, they weren't drunk and obnoxious like.....well, like me. I drank waaaaay too much before, during, and after the game, so I pretty much feel like ASS this morning.
