With Astros setting up Framber's last rehab start to coincide with 4 days rest before LMJ's next start, it sounds like Astros are taking advantage of adding two starters as a means to take 1-2 starts off of LMJ to address fatigue.
Yeah, my suggestion that the mayor let us fight in the stands or somehow have the Dodgers fans arrested and held in jail cells until the final pitch was probably over the top.
This is load management there was never any chance he was gonna make 32 starts and throw 200+ innings
Both Odorizzi and Valdez coming back this weekend outweighs LMJ going on the IL (for what kinda looks like load management) IMO.
Once Lance comes back after a turn or two through the rotation our starting 5 will be... Greinke Valdez LMJ Odorizzi Urquidy? (Maybe Javier, but Javier’s stuff plays up better than Urquidy’s in the BP) Then, all of a sudden, your bullpen now has guys like Javier, Urquidy and Taylor (coming back from IL) and looks much better than it currently does. Still think they will have to/should add a couple more bullpen arms come the deadline.
He had a 20lb ice bag attached to his elbow after the FIRST inning on Saturday. He's got some soreness/dead-arm that could be going around the clubhouse (Javier had zero command Sunday).
Icing arms is normal for pitchers There was never a chance LMJ was going to make 32 starts and throw 200+ innings Javier has also been excellent, but he has already matched his innings from last year. They aren’t going to let any of these guys throw a full load this year with the exception of ZG LMJ will be back, and will have another IL at some point later in the year also
Yes. He also had it on after the quicker innings. I didn't see that in his earlier starts. Maybe it all stemmed from that first... maybe the ice is better in Arlington. LMJ has every reason to be "sore"... last time he went 3 consecutive starts of 100+ pitches was 2015.
I hadn't seen him doing it in between innings before then. Same goes for most of the starters. Certainly after the game, seems like routine practice. Actually just allowed me to do a deep dive on intermittent vs. post-game icing. So far studies are somewhat inconclusive on whether or not there's a difference.
It's not like Taylor Jones can be any worse than Yordan's been recently, right? Right? eta: and this is fun, Diaz hasn't played since he tweaked his hammy Friday. Backup catcher is the only fully healthy player on the bench tonight.
Look on the bright side: If Jones can K 5 times tonight it'll mean the offense has had a much better game.
When Valdez, Urquidy, and Odorizzi come back they’ll be on pitch counts for a period. Hope the bullpen gets straightened out.
