Would you pay Dallas all the money he is asking for with 3 of 5 years with ERA's over 5 with a whip in the 1.40's?
Would you pay all that money for K? Please, look at numbers, 3 of 5 years ERA's over 5 with a very high whip number. Would you?? I tell you one thing, our best starter is McCullers, not K.
With Greinke, this would be our rotation: 1. Greinke 2. McCullers 3. K 4. McHugh 5. Fister/Fiers No other team would beat that rotation. Then again, where is my beloved pest who laughed at Greinke and his numbers? Unfortunately Mr. Greinke came and conquer today.
Who is better right now? Keuchel at a gazillion dollars a year, but a whip of 3.14, and he demands to only pitch on the the 4th, 12th, 23rd, and 24th of the month, but only when those dates fall on a weekend, and we are at home. Or Ken Giles for only half a gazillion dollars. For those reasons, McCullers is great (or sucks, depending on the mood, which is driven by his WHIP), and we should very clearly FIRE HINCH. I mean I know that was the obvious point in my post, but I just wanted to explicitly say it to remove any doubt. FIRE HINCH.
Young Kershaw Arrietta Clemens Ryan Can't say I know a lot about Mr. Young, but they named a pretty important award after him so i'm thinking he could lead a rotation
My position is simple, IF we want to be the best, we have to sign BIG FA. Cubs did it and Giants always do it. Giants went after Cueto, Cubs went after Lester. Astros went after Fister. We have to spend on big names, big pitchers to help us go to the next step. We already have a great nucleus, but we need to spend to get that guy that is going to be the number 1 starter. We don't have one right now. McCullers is a great number 2, and could become a number 1 in the future with less walks. (with less walks means less pitches and more innings). Cueto was available, Greinke was also available. We have to go after those kind of pitchers. Boston improved this year, they went after Price. Why can't we do the same???? Why???? Greinke is the pitcher that stops losing streaks. He is 7 and 3 this year on a bad team. With a pitcher like that, Rangers will not go 4 and 0 in a series. We already lost 2 four game series this year. We need that number 1 starter in Houston. Why should we be complacent, because we are beating bad teams right now???? We want a number 1 starter in Houston, enough of Feldman and Fister (even tough he is pitching good for us) FA signings, i want a real number 1 starter in Houston. Look, i am sorry but i am accustom to have a number 1 in Houston. I am spoiled, we had Oswalt , before that, Scott, before that Ryan, before that, JR Richards, now we have K????? Come on.
Cy Young had a WHIP over 1.3 in six season. SIX seasons I tell you, oh the humanity! Greinke > Young and it's not really close. Fire Hinch
do you realize that 1 of those years the dude was 44???Second, it was 4 years, not six. And, on 3 of those 4 years the whip was over 1.3 but you know how many innings? Over 400 each year. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm One year he was 44, 3 years he pitched over 400 innings each. Do you know that in 6 years his whip was under 1.00?????
Yea this is one of the worst multi-post rants he has gone on Guess they closed down the pharmacy for the day
The depth with which too many posters live game-to-game, inning-to-inning, at bat-to-at bat would seem to suggest a heavy, if not overwhelming fantasy baseball influence - where constant tinkering is expected and, honestly, a big reason why it's so much fun. But in actual, real life baseball, teams do not juggle and change their batting order on a nightly basis; they do not overreact to small sample sizes; there are few whims, not a lot of hunches and almost no irrational decision-making. The quickest route to changing failing fortunes, frankly, is patience - as long as there's a track record. The cream rises, and all - and baseball people understand this.
Lets continue with Whips, Nolan Ryan, my favorite player, his whip is 1.247. For a starter, not bad, especially on that era when you pitched over 300 innings or over 250. This era the whip should be lower because you "only" need to go 6, maybe 7. If you throw 200 innings, you are a very good starter. I take Greinke on my team any day.
