Awww come on. I know you're one of Gregerson's biggest supporters but he is just not trustworthy. He has more of a likelihood to be come back on because he pitches to contact more than your average closer. Anyway, Hinch needed to start giving other relievers more chances to close. This game may force him to now.
scientifically, Gomez takes away more chemistry points than Marisnick adds. Just do the math--it's clear
It has more to do with having pitchers that were having an easy time getting hitters out with a low pitch count. Every time you go to the pen you are risking having a guy that doesn't have it coming in. It just seemed unnecessary and odd to bring him in with a 3 run lead...
this. he had a good outing yesterday too and i've never been a big supporter of greg as the closer. he's gotta be gone after today though. i'm all for will harris being the closer because he's deserved it so far, but i hope he can handle it. much different situation than being the set-up man
Right, I get the downsides. I'm saying, most recently, he K'ed the side and was fine. Overall, he's been fine as a closer. I don't understand how you can come down on Hinch for bringing in Gregerson *today* to close out a *3 run lead*. There's so much "obviously Hinch f'ed up" about today, which I find ridiculous. If you're saying he should've been replaced after his 2 or 3 rough games 7-10 days ago or something, then fine. But saying Hinch was wrong today is silly IMO. Totally with you that the rest of the pen has been good enough to replace Luke after having issues with a big lead against a mediocre team. I will put it on Hinch if Harris or Giles isn't closing the next game. Feliz I assume will move to later setup before closing, esp given his ability to take on innings when needed
Hmm.. I understand that logic generally, but I also feel like every single team in the MLB would have gone to their closer (whether lights out or mediocre) with a 3 run lead. Especially with the track record of single innings throughout the season. (i.e. it's not like Harris consistently throws > 1 inning) Am I wrong? Think it's typical for a non-closer to stay in a game for > 1 inning with a closer available and a "save situation" entering the 9th? (I'm sure it happens when a closer is unavailable for the day.)
