good point. Would love to see him have a shot and see how he responds. There are some good examples of pitchers who have stepped up in the playoffs after being decent-to-good regular season. I won't name one..
I hope he has to pitch game 4 of the World Series with the Astros on the verge of sweeping the Cardinals.
Yea I agree. Obviously Keuchel and Kazmir are the top two, but I wouldn't have any problem at all with McHugh on the hill in a big playoff game
Really dude? An "I told you so!" post? WEAK Any chance we can knock off these pointless, 500+ word dissertations?
Your I told you so post is funny. How many times have we seen you give up on the Astros late in games? Stop with this non sense ^
I still evaluate a pitcher on wins. You pitch to win the game. An example is non-save situations where most relievers fall apart. it's what you do when the game is on the line that will matter in the playoffs. You want to breed winners. Not so-so's. The game is mental.
I think is important in the regular season also. Is difficult to have the rotation of the Braves when they had Glavine, Smoltz and Maddux, where you had 3 number 1's there but to be a good team you need that number 1, and another pitcher that is a 1a or a very good number 2. It helps your team with your bullpen, and you don't need to score as many runs to win games. Now we have a complete rotation, because we really have great pitchers at the top 3 spots, and 2 very good pitchers in the 4th and 5th spot if we talk about Fiers and McHugh. How many teams would love to have McHugh as their number 5? If they do, then they would have a great rotation, and we have one. And guys, this is going to get better, VV next year, and Appel??? Wow, and those 2 are going to help in september. Even with all those pitchers, i would try and re sign Kazmir.
Due to the diction and syntax, I think he's roughly in middle school/junior high and in about two weeks we'll see his post count fall precipitously.
I think that McHugh is very good in that part of the game, and thats why he wins games. Look at yesterday's game, men on third and less than 2 outs and he struck out the number 1 and 2 hitter. He win games, his ERA and whip are high, but he knows how to win games with this team. Would i trust him over Fiers in the playoffs? Well, we have 2 months to see.
Personal attacks aren't cool man Criticize his baseball posts if you disagree. Heck criticize mine or anyone you want But personal attacks aren't cool
Yeah, how hard they go after Kazmir is going to be my first real test of how serious Crane is about building (and maintaining) a winner in this city. It's great he gave the approval to go ahead with the trade, but a half season rental isn't really a commitment that proves anything, in my opinion. They don't even have to necessarily sign the guy, but they should at least offer up a reasonable, market-driven contract. With his roots in Houston and the team being an up and comer, I feel like were they to do that he would stay here.
