. . . and Backe now leads the majors in HR surrendered. Congratulations. And who led the league last year? That's right, Woody Williams. Astros pitching: It's FANtastic.
Some good news... Jason Castro is on a 6-game hitting streak for Tri-City. He's hitting .367 over his last 10 games with 8 BBs and only 3 SOs. AB: 82 AVG: .280 OBP: .392 SLG: .354 BB: 15 SO: 14 HR: 0 2B: 6
Backe allowed 2 grand slams in this game? Hay yay yay! What's that...2 games where 11 ERs allowed in the last 3 games? You have got to be kidding me.
Holy ****. Did he really? I saw the first one he gave up and then turned the TV off. Two though... well that's very impressive
Can we call up a couple of fresh arms from AAA so that Cooper can stop trying to "Save the Bullpen" and can get our pitchers out of a game after they have given up...I dunno 6 or 7 runs
guys your missing the point brand pitched a great game in the 2004 playoffs, then another great game in the 2005 playoffs.....whatever he does today is irrelevant, all those 2 ip 8h 6 er performances dont matter to management all that matters is he's from galveston and was ok 4 years ago. Say we cut backe right now, what do we go with runlevys? Paronto? Sampson? Re-sign Woody? Theyre all the same, Drayton better be ready to sign sheets and sabathia this offseason
Uhh...yeah...teams go out and sign not one but two pitchers that will make $20M a season each all the time. I think we needs to sign either Sheets or Sabathia, but it is nuts to even suggest that we can (or should) go get them both.
ummm we payed clemens and pettite a combined 40 mill and bagwell was getting paid then. So bagwell and lee cancel out and there's another $40 million out there yes i know berkman and roy's salaries went up in the mean time, but our revenues are among the highest in baseball look up some numbers, we can more than afford its just Drayton wouldn't do it. I wouldn't mind seeing either sheets or sabathia with pettite back in houston
Drayton wouldn't be able to outbid the Yankees for Sheets or CC though. What ever happened to drafting players and producing homegrown talent??? That's the direction the Astros should take, then you can trade some of your prospects for big time players like the Brewers did.
Wow. Forbes thinks you are wrong. We are 12th out of 30 teams in terms of revenues. The Astros have revenue of $193M ($112M spent on players salary). The team's net income before taxes, interest, and depreciation is $20.4M. Add two more frontline starting pitchers ($40M), and this team is LOSING $20M per year. Sure, there will be some offset for jersey sales and the reduction of salary from players like Backe we would release, but you are still at a net loss. The Yankees have $327M a year in revenues. It isn't even close. This also does not take into account the Yankees likely tripling their gate receipts in the new park. You told me to look up some numbers, so I did. It isn't nearly as rosy as you might think.
At the time the Astros got Randy Wolf, his and Backe's numbers were virtually identical (except for HR allowed). WHAT a difference a couple weeks make.....
