Texas lawmakers recommend impeaching AG Paxton after Republican investigation

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton teetered on the brink of impeachment Thursday after years of scandal, criminal charges and corruption accusations that the state’s Republican majority had largely met with silence until now.

In an unanimous decision, a Republican-led House investigative committee that spent months quietly looking into Paxton recommended impeaching the state’s top lawyer. The state House of Representatives could vote on the recommendation as soon as Friday. If the House impeaches Paxton, he would be forced to leave office immediately.

 

Mother arrested after leaving children in burning vehicle

A Central Florida woman with a history of run-ins with law enforcement was arrested in late May after leaving two children in her car, which caught on fire, while she was allegedly shoplifting, according to law enforcement.

Alicia Me’Kayla Moore, 24, was observed on May 26 allegedly shoplifting alongside an unknown man at the Dillards department store at the Oviedo Mall by mall security. Moore left the children in her car, a white 2016 Lincoln, while inside Dillards for around an hour, according to her arrest report.

Redactions to the report left unclear the relationship between Moore and the children.

While Moore was inside Dillards, the vehicle caught fire. One resident leaving the mall, Suzanne Matos, saw the fire and rescued those inside the vehicle, although not before at least one of them suffered burns, according to court records.
