All good points, but to me, the biggest detractor of Parcells is the fact that an overwhelming majority of "his" guys have not succeeded at the highest level of coaching. You take everybody excluding Belichick, and you have a very average group of guys. I might have spoken a bit harshly when I said "flamed out" (and to be honest, the Jets completely slipped my mind), but that doesn't take away from the fact that his most RECENT stops have been underwhelming at best. I agree that there are no guarantees on whether the next guy stays here for 10 years, but I think actively choosing somebody who you KNOW won't be here is a folly for this team. It's fairly evident to me that McNair is a man who likes continuity, and I think he understands that it would be hard to sell a rental of sorts to this fanbase after they have been so patient for the past 9 years. To me, Bill Cowher is pretty much the ONLY guy he can bring in that would completely undo all of the ill will that was created this season. It would almost be like a mulligan for McNair in the sense that people would be just as excited for next season as they were this season, and that's VERY hard to do after such a failure. Cowher could very well be 2 years and out, but that's not the feeling you get with him. He didn't just coach that team in Pittsburgh.....he installed an IMAGE. That team STILL has his stamp all over it, and that's not something that should be lost on Bob McNair. Bill Cowher brings a pedigree that I don't think anybody else brings.
Cowher would be ideal, and likely is the defacto #1 choice for a leader of a new regime... but if there's any hesitation on his part, and Parcells actually does want to come here, there should be no hesitation on the Texans part to hire Parcells. They could do FAR worse. Also, Sean Peyton and Tom Coughlin are both Parcells guys.. and both have won Super Bowls. When you combine them with Belicheck, which other coaching tree even comes close to matching that recent success? Even the Bill Walsh tree (the tree of all trees) can't claim that many Super Bowls. And again, his stint in Dallas wasn't all that much of a failure.. if you attribute Wade's 13-3 season largely to the players that Parcells developed, along with the foundation that he has left there that still is evident in their best players today.
pretty silly and flat out cheesy. a makeshift display is not going to play a role in a coaching change. maybe gary can go to their job with signs for them to be fired. cut that meat cut that meat
Yeah poor Gary. Hope his bank account can console him. This is not Gary the minimum wage burger flipper. I think he will be fine.

There seems to be a little buzz about Mike Sherman this week. Richard Justice said on his Twitter that that's who he thinks McNair wants, and the National Football Post posted this blurb yesterday: http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/NFP-Sunday-Blitz-5014.html It would be a slightly disappointing hire, if Cowher is truly interested, but Sherman is a good and proven coach. Remember that he also had experience early in the Kubiak regime, so the offensive transition would be fairly smooth. And the meltdown in College Station would be epic...
Would be pretty disappointed with a Sherman hire because of one thing: I really think Bob needs to go out of the box here and get new thinking into the organization. It can't always be people who will get along with him and tell him what he likes to hear. I heard Adam Shefter mention that there is buzz that Miami may try to get Carl Peterson and Bill Cowher to team up down there if they let go of Sporano. I would LOVE that tandem to take over the Texans.
Maybe, but I've always had the sense that Sherman was an NFL guy first and foremost. I think he would jump, if offered. I agree with justtxyank - the only way I'd be OK with a Sherman hire is if Rick Smith is out the door as well. Otherwise, I'd be somewhat disappointed. Sherman does have a solid track record, but the Texans do need to go somewhat out of their usual box for either HC or GM.
I agree. I vaguely remember there being articles about how hurt he was when he was with us that nobody came calling on him to get another NFL head job. I think he would jump at the chance to take over another NFL team. I just think they need a culture change and I don't think Sherm is the guy for that. I wouldn't be devastated by the hire because he is obviously a competent coach, but I think a different direction would be better, even if Smith is gone. (Which I assume is a given if Koobs is really out)
Sherman wouldn't be horrible (I guess), but like justtxyank says, I wouldn't prefer it because of one thing: It's time to totally clean house. Top to Bottom. No exceptions. What do you want your team to do? Restart Ends Kubiak Regime, shuts down all of staff (former included), starts staff over again. That's what I want to see.
my 10 year old and i had a discussion the other day about how now might be time to change uniforms/logo all of it...completely rebrand. i'm not saying they should...or i want them to...or anything like that. just that's how much change i'd like to imagine they're at least contemplating. a complete makeover. MOVE THAT BUS!!!
If Sherman gets hired that would be okay by me but it has to come along with a GOOD GM and defensive staff to justify it. Sherman has a proven track record of taking the Packers to the playoffs, winning divison titles and has done a nice job at A&M.
I didn't follow the original hiring at all, but what caused Sherman to go from all that success in Green Bay to assistant coach for the Texans (he wasn't even OC the first year)? It seems like a huge step down, and one that a coach with that much success wouldn't want to make? Here's Sherman's Christmas letter to coaches if anyone is interested: http://blogs.chron.com/sportsjustice/archives/2010/12/mike_shermans_h.html
