Cannonball beat you to it. I still hold out hope that the other scenario could play out, and Smith will get dumped after the draft.
I just can't help but feel like the team stays mediocre at best if this happens. Let's hope for a great draft and maybe a key free agent signing (doubtful though on the FA signing) and the players can take care of business. I'm starting to feel like the three names leaked were to get the fans to be ok with keeping Kubiak. Frustrating, very frustrating. I also somewhat agree with scarface281 that a Wade hire may work better with a HC that is more demanding and holds his players more accountable. I'm really sick of the it's on me bit. Get in some guys faces, mistakes by players seem to not be met with much displeasure. As I was typing this, they are now throwing out Jack freaking Pardee as a candidate. What a joke.
Were the 10th most valuable sports franchise in the world. It's time for McNair to step up and stop playing it safe and show what kind of owner he really is. McNair made his bed when he gave Kubiak the idiotic extension after getting trigger happy over 9-7 despite yet another failed season where we probably should of made the playoffs, and now he should lie in it and do whats best for the team.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on there..... What exactly has Kubiak done to get himself fired? I mean, besides going 36-43, 8-22 vs. winning teams, 0-5 on playoff seasons, losing control of the team to the point where 2 players actually get in a fight in the middle of a game, and ending this season on a 1-9 streak? Besides that, what has he done to warrant getting fired? Remember: he's an OFFENSIVE GENIUS because we gain lots of yards after falling behind. Let's not be too brash here, okay... Spoiler
Maybe he is showing us what kind of owner he is. Drayton part two. Never even wanted to entertain a thought like that, let's hope it's not true. Sorry emjohn^^^^^^^^^ I didn't see your Drayton comment until someone replied to it. I wouldn't have said it myself if I saw yours.
It's one thing to not care what the REST of the nation thinks.....it's quite another to completely ostracize your own fan base. Go to hell, Bob.
That and the fact that Reliant Stadium is a nice, pleasant, family-oriented, game-day experience. The players are all boy scouts, the cheerleaders are dressed like nuns, the roof is closed if it falls below 75 degrees, and the kids just love Toro. Go Texans.
http://blogs.chron.com/nfl/2010/12/i_believe_kubiak_will_return_a.html ----- http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ak-may-yet-be-safe-paired-with-wade-phillips/
^^ IF McNair insist on keeping Kubes then Phillips is an excellent choice to be the DC but something smells funny and keeping Smith just adds to his ignorance. I would give it a chance if Smith was let go and a REAL gm was brought in but now it looks like he is going to let Smiak decide the fate of our potential top 10 pick.
This Kubiak/Philips pairing makes me sick. Like someone said it provides no outs if it fails. Secondly, it ignores all of Kubiak's non-defensive issues. Playing half a game, pregame preparations, time management, being a coach with some actual BALLS, all of these are magnified by bringing in Phillips. Two morons don't equal a competent HC.
Agree with all of this. This is all nonsensical. Just looking at next year, the team's problems aren't solely on defense. There are way too many other problems to say they just need to fix the defense. Second, what happens at the end of next year if the team is 7-9 or 8-8 or even 9-7? You have Kubiak who you can get rid of. But then what happens to your DC? Do you fire the guy you just hired a year ago and start over with yet another defensive scheme? Do you make him head coach? Do you try to hire a new coach and force the guy to keep your DC? Basically, this eliminates all your options - not to mention missing out on your once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to possibly get a hall-of-fame head coach that happens to be both available and interested in your job.
Special teams is an issue, but really, what about the offense requires so much attention that you would bother with it in the offseason at expense of the D or ST? I think the biggest problem with our offense isn't even a personnel issue, it's freaking Kubiak getting too cute and thinking Matt Schaub is John Elway v 2.0
I'm praying for a spanking of epic proportions Sunday. Hopefully, that changes Mcnair's mind but I'm at the point of thinking that basically nothing will. It's the Capers/Casserly/Carr situation all over again.
Bob McNair will extend Kubiak's contract because that would be an improvement over this season and that means we are headed in the right direction.
What will get Cowher here? I know he has said Houston would be in consideration, so obviously we're not a 'hell no' option. What would get him here? Pay the man whatever he wants, it will be worth it in the long run.
Sorry - I mean more things like game management, playing a full game instead of individual halves, motivation, playing smart, etc. There's a lot more to Kubiak's job than just offense, defense, and special teams. Fixing the defense isn't a cure-all to the team's problems. They still have issues of finding ways to implode and do stupid stuff to lose games, etc.
i swear to god if we have a chance to clean house and bring in Bill f***ing Cowher and ol' bobby pulls a move like a rubiak + wade combo i will **** on his front lawn. we are 5 - and F***ING - 10. what is bob seeing that we're not??!?!? i feel like we're we all taking crazy pills or something.
What is Bob not seeing? Well he DOES see Gary is a good guy. Gary is a hometown guy. He also sees Gary Kubiak's offense and thinks no one else can come in and get similar results. He worries if Gary goes bye-bye, so does the Texans offense.
