Peter King and Mortenson both weren't sure anymore either, it's one thing if McClain says it but when the big time guys aren't sure then its kind of scary.
At this point, I don't know whether I actually want Kubiak fired anymore. I know Barry Warner is full of ****, but would anybody really be surprised if this organization actually took a step backward from mediocrity by botching the coaching hire?
Looking more and more like Kubiak gets another year. If this happens I just hope the Texans bring in a DC that will wreck shop. Just seems like having to pay the entire staff for two more years will be a huge factor in McNair's decision.
This is what I've been hoping for ever since the rumor about Smith staying surfaced. If you think about it, the whole scenario makes perfect sense. But something tells me that that is the exact reason why the Texans won't do it - because it makes perfect sense...
If Kubiak gets another year, we better bring in a top flight defensive coordinator. Preferably someone NOT named Wade Phillips.
Yep. This is starting to reek of: McNair refusing to pay for two staffs in what will probably be a shortened/revenue reduced year. McNair bringing Wade Phillips to be DC (I can swallow that)....with the unspoken intention of handing him the HC position if Kubiak doesn't blow the hinges off the doors next year (or two if the lockout is serious). UGH. Budget comes first!!!! Can't let that profit line sag!
Nah, Wade Phillips is a pretty good defensive coordinator. Go look at his defenses as a DC and HC. It's the fact that Kubiak is still the HC that would make it not work. Can't have two softies like that. Wade would work with a Cowher or Gruden as HC, not Kubiak.
Donny: What do you mean a head coach isn't hired before the draft? Of course they are. Coaches are normally hired in January/February. Draft is usually in late April. I can't remember the last time a team fired its coach and brought in a replacement AFTER the draft. Kubiak was hired before the draft, as was Sean Payton in New Orleans (jan 17th?), Brad Childress (jan 6) Mike Tomlin (Jan 22), Norv Turner (Feb 18-20?) Harbaugh (Jan 19th or so) Shannahan (jan 5) Todd Haley (early Feb) Chan Gailey (Late Jan) Rex Ryan (Jan 19) Spagnualo (Jan 17) Jim Schawrtz (jan 16) Eric Mangini (Jan 14) Josh McDaniels (early January) Response to this post:
That's precisely why I don't want Phillips. I'm not saying that he won't help the defense, because he will, a little. But he's too soft. Besides that, I don't want him having any chance to sniff our head coaching job. I know there are a lot of people out there that believe that fiery is overrated, but we need someone, especially a defensive coach that is going to get on someone. I don't mean Mike Singletary, because I don't really want him either. My perfect candidate should we do something like this: Marvin Lewis. Or John Fox.
I made a big stink about being anti-Phillips, but honestly, he's a good DC. Overall D rankings where Wade was DC or HC have been top 3rd in the league on average. I don't have as much of a problem with bringing him in to be DC as I do with keeping Klueless Kubiak as head coach. If Arian Foster gets less than 20 touches in a game again my doctor won't allow me to watch the Texans anymore.
If Kubiak gets another year, all other changes are irrelevant, and won't make a damn bit of difference.
JasonLaCanfora Speaking to coaches and executives today, hearing rumblings of Wade Phillips possibly landing as coordinator in HOU w/ Kubiak as head coach JasonLaCanfora Many, myself included, figured the Texans collapse, including an on-field fight, would lead to a taskmaster taking over as head coach.. JasonLaCanfora But from what I've heard this morning, that might not be the end result there.
my biggest problem with this strategy is that it provides no out once mcnair wakes up and realizes kubiak can't handle the team. what's he going to do? fire kubiak and promote wade to HC? that's a laugh.
That was the reasoning for my original anti-Phillips messages... I could absolutely see this coming true.
Laugh to us and most everyone else but to McNair it makes perfect sense. He can fire Kubiak and hire the son of an Oiler legend and soften the blow...in his mind.
If all this is true, it's proof positive that McNair refuses to put what's right for the team over dollar signs. Cheap band aid, and hope that the fans are just grateful to have football return after the lockout. Drayton2.
Exactly what I was getting at a few posts above yours. I think the majority of (smart) Texans fans are going to think this way. Thus, I will keep my signature the way it is, until he proves me wrong, or someone else becomes more of an idiot in my mind (doubtful to happen).
