Nope. There definitely isn't a waiting list for Texans season tickets. We aren't the Packers here. Easy way to find out....call them. The Texans are losing PSLs, too. So much so, they've converted sections in Reliant.
I haven't seen this posted anywhere, but it's from Yahoo and it mentions that Cowher never made a wish list of teams he would wanna join.. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/rumors/...t=Ark80dJbm5YX9cykZz8wJ5w5nYcB?urn=nfl-301058
Eh, this is just PR damage control. He doesn't want to look like a vulture who's circling over potentially fired coaches. It makes him look bad in front of his colleagues. However, it's fairly evident that he has a list of preferences and I'm willing to bet the Texans are on that list.
Yeah, I hope the Texans are on that list.. Mclain from the Chron was saying in his chat that Mcnair was really angry, and dissapointed. And Mclain thinks Kubiak will be fired, but Cowher won't be hired. Mclain said that Cowher would cost too much and he doesn't think that Mcnair would shell out the money for him. You gotta remember that Kubiak and all his assistant coaches are under contract for two more years so Mcnair would have to be paying the rest of their salaries... Idk, Mclain changes stances pretty regularly so idk..
Yeah, he didn't say that he didn't have a list of preferred teams, he just said he didn't have a wish list of coaches to get fired. If he's not secretly rooting for coaches to be fired, it doesn't mean there aren't certain teams he'd rather coach for if the opportunity to do so arose. /optimist
It was an absolutely idiotic move of the highest degree to give Kubiak (and his staff) an extension when he still had a year left on his deal. I don't even know who thought that was a good move at the time. Just the thought that we could miss out on someone like Cowher because McNair didn't want Kubiak to be a lame duck coach this year is enraging. And who would pay for that mistake? Who else, the fans, who only want some success from their football team for a change.
Hey...come on, guys. He wanted to let the coaches know that they should feel comfortable. No reason to make these guys think they're jobs are on the line at any point. /sarcasm (sad, but this is actually what I heard the thinking was) Can you say milquetoast vanilla? Bob McNair can. He lives it.
Found this Dick Justice blog from January: [rquoter]McNair should extend Kubiak's contract now Gary Kubiak deserves a contract extension for some of the same reasons Cecil Cooper deserved one last spring. He shouldn't be allowed to coach the Texans in the final year of his contract because it creates an unnecessary distraction and a sense of doubt in the locker room. In addition, it makes it more difficult to hire good assistant coaches for a coach in the final year of his contract. The Texans need stability and McNair ought to send a message that he's fully behind this management team of Rick Smith and Gary Kubiak. It's going to be tough to get the best assistant coaches to come to work for a coach in the final year of his contract. I'm not talking about rewarding Gary Kubiak for a job well done. I'm talking about doing what gives the Texans the best chance to win. All McNair would be committing is money, and he has plenty of that. Besides, if Kubiak has earned a chance to coach the Texans in 2010, then he ought to be given every chance to succeed. Some of you will argue that Kubiak ought to be forced to prove himself, but that's not how life works in the NFL. There's too much top-to-bottom parity. Games are decided by the smallest things. The Texans missed the playoffs by one play. Go ahead and pick it. Chris Brown's fumble against Jacksonville? Yes, that one stands as the biggest. But in losing games by 3, 3, 5, 7, 7 and 8 points, they showed us all how really close they are. Kubiak earned another season, and McNair should give him every chance to succeed, beginning with his own job security.[/rquoter] LOL. Our assistants sure are outstanding, aren't they? Also, McNair wanted to extend Kubiak until 2013 instead of 2012 but Kubiak wanted his contract to run out at the same time his assistants' did. So don't say he never gave you nothin'. He saved McNair a couple million dollars.
If those rumors are true, you can just see that McNair is cheap b*stard and doesn't care about winning, going after college coach and keeping your GM..? seriously
I would LOVE to meet RJ in person. No, I'm not going internet tough-guy here. I'd just like to hear his explanation (if he even has one) for the asinine flip-flopping he's subjected his readers to. It's gotten to the point where I honestly believe: Spoiler =
Sherman is a seasoned NFL veteran. Aggies were pissed when they went after an NFL coach (which is hit or miss) to bring in. Or at least I was.
Exactly. He never said he wanted the coaches to be fired. Just that those jobs would interest them should they be open. I'm not sure if he actually said it, or if someone just assumed, but the same thing came out last year, with Houston being one of those teams (I think Carloina and Chicago the others), so I'm pretty sure it's legit.
Wow, the last 4 pages of this thread were based on something Barry Freakin' Warner said on his show? That relic from the 70's is like an older, balder version of DaDakota. Some of the younger posters on this site might not be familiar with Warner, but he's been doing this kind of nonsense for 30 years. There's a reason he's been in the same market for 3 decades and has never moved on to bigger better things like a lot of the serious professional media members who have passed through Houston at some point in their careers have (Hannah Storm, Ron Franklin, etc.) The guy is a complete buffoon. Houston really got the short end of the stick when it comes to sports media personalities. Justice, Solomon, McClain, Warner, and now guys like Josh Innes (who apparently thinks he's Howard Stern and we actually care about his dull personal life). Seriously, is there a worse sports market in the country than Houston? Like I said earlier in the thread - wake me up when Mark Berman has something to say. Until then, I'm not taking anything any of these idiots have to say seriously.
a mixture of this and the vy/mario debacle is why i rarely listen to sports radio in this town any more.
So apparently John McClain was on radio this morning and to no one surprise, he has flopped his tune. After just yesterday(or was it Monday?) in his chat saying Kubiak will be fired Monday or next week, I wasnt listening but to quote someone who was
Seriously, what an idiot. He's just trying to cover his bases. If Kubiak is fired, he can say he was right. If Kubiak isn't fired, he can say he was right. Typical lazy internet-based journalism. Thank you blogs, twitter, message boards etc. for ruining true news reporting.
