the thing is...in the NFL, being a playoff team pretty much makes you a contender. you're only 2 wins away from playing in a super bowl. in the NBA, you have to win series. there've been exactly two 8-seeds in the history of the NBA who've made it past the first round. outside of a strike-shortened season, only one team as low as 6 has ever made the Finals. the context is entirely different for a league where more teams make the playoffs than don't...and then have to play in a series to get to the next round....
Call me crazy but . . . . aren't they playing for the Fans? It is boardline saying .. . they don't care what the fans think. Rocket River
Plenty of Colts players were saying it was "just another game". Still though, I have to laugh at those that think the season is lost. We play an Oakland team on Sunday that the Texans SHOULD beat. If they don't beat Oakland, then the sky is definitely falling. If they do, then the team has grown up.
Hopefully, they're angry. We''re 4-1 lifetime against the Raiders. Beating them isn't progress, it's expected. I'll say this: I have full (FULL) confidence that they will win in Oakland....but if they were to lose, I'd all but write off their chances for a playoff berth.
i don't think you can expect the players to be more motivated about a regional rivalry than they would be for a division rivalry..particularly against a team they've faced 2x a season that has absolutely owned them. i'm not the least bit surprised they find it easier to get motivated against the AFC champs then a team that came in 0-2 but happened to be from Dallas.
Maybe, but they sure seemed like they were playing with extra motivation a month ago when they played dallas in a preseason game. They came out fired up in that game. I was expecting that emotion again and I didn't see it. I'm still leaning towards this game being the worst case scenario. I don't think they'll play that bad in every phase of the game again.
seemed the motivation in that game was to come back after getting their ass handed to them by the saints. they had a lot to prove after that game...they hadn't had the success of 2-0 and being the talk of ESPN yet at that point.
Probably because they got stomped by the Saints the week before and Dallas just happened to be the next opponent.
I'm not too upset about the loss. We just seemed out of sync. I am very worried about our CBs though. That's 3 games in a row where they've looked absolutely horrendous. Were picking another corner in the 1st round this offseason, no doubt. Probably signing a FA corner too.
Don't forget that dallass is a pretty good team and they were basically playing for their lives. They had a LOT more to lose than us yesterday. Not saying that excuses us from coming out flat, but it's not like we were playing a sorry team.
They looked like the same sorry team that bumbled to an 0-2 start, then got surprised to see they were leading the third quarter and that they could pass at will on us. They had a swagger in the second half that was non-existent to start the game. If our offense showed up, we would have won easily. Instead, they only had to trump two FGs until garbage time. We gave them the win.
Every single one. I have to yet to find a planet on which the Rockets are not a possibility for the 3 seed.
