I know OD is coming off surgery, but our TEs should've been able to make some plays in the short and medium game to help Schaub get rid of the ball and avoid hits.
Good observation. One of my keys to this game was for the Texans to shorten Schaub's drops. Of course, Dennison picked this game to prove that he can be just as clueless as Kubiak on making in-game adjustments. They keep this up and Schaub is going to get killed back there. Already he's on a 50+ sacks pace and that's not going to get the job done.
OD looks BAD so far this season. His ability to accelerate is completely gone along with a lot of hit speed
Yeah, I had the same feeling. The numbers just didn't look good: Schaub 's protection hasn't been there all season. The secondary has been a sieve. The Texans' weaknesses pretty much lined up against the Cows' strengths. What was dismaying to me was that the Cows won because they simply wanted this game more and that should never happen yet it seems to be a recurring theme with this franchise under Kubiak as is getting badly out-coached (again). After what I saw yesterday, I feel compelled to ask: On what are you basing your prediction? Because I don't see a reason why they should be favored in any game until they (a) Demonstrate they can handle the blitz (b)provide better protection for Schaub (c) generate a consistent pass rush in each game (as opposed to every other game) (d) make the right in-game adjustments and (e) prove the secondary can cover someone (anyone?). I realize that nearly everyone here is placing a "W" next to the Raider game but based on what I've saw yesterday (from both the Texans & Oakland), it would not surprise me in the least if the Raiders get the win come Sunday.
I think the worst thing that happened was Dallass losing to the Bears the week before. Had they not come in here 0-3, I don't think they would've been nearly as fired us as they were yesterday. Coming off a win, they probably would've been over-confident. That's just who they are. LOL, I'm certainly not predicting it....just saying it wouldn't surprise me. Oakland is still not a good football team, the Giants are a mess, and KC is the worst 3-0 team ever. Hopefully yesterday will prove to the Texans that they aren't as great as everyone has been saying they are and there is still a lot of work to be done. EDIT: By the way HillBoy, what did you see from the Raiders yesterday? They lost to the freakin' Cards! If your argument is that they are going to be pissed off this week, well....so are we! Hopefully, anyway...............
careful ima, you are setting yourself for disappointment. until we get rid of kubes, we will continue to lack big hairy nuts. let's say we lose to kc, what then?
Beating an elite team like the Colts handily and coming back on the road in epic fashion against the Redskins are far greater achievements than losing to Dallas is a failure. If you don't give Kubiak big hairy nut cred for weeks 1 and 2, then you'll never give him credit. And if we lose to KC, then we'll be just like every other team they've played so far this year.
The thing that really amuses me is that it will be another 8 years before the Cowboys return to Houston for a regular season game, so it will be SIXTEEN YEARS from '19-10' (oh NOESSS!) til this particular breed of hating fan gets another opportunity to have something else besides that to hang their hat on.. And when I say 'hater', as Vecsey pointed out, I don't necessarily mean someone who hates the Cowboys *team* so much as I mean the type of fan who hates Cowboys *fans*. And as a lifelong 'Boys fan who has always also loved the Oilers and now the Texans, it gives me great satisfaction to watch the adorable haters have to stew in their own juices for another eight years.
I don't want to be like Cleveland or San Fran. Hell, even SD looked like crap yesterday - that win over them doesn't look so impressive anymore. The combined record for the teams KC has beaten this year is 1-5 against the rest of the league. Really, if we want to prove we've indeed taken the next step, we have no business losing any of the next 3 games.
We won't be like those teams in that we suck butt and haven't won a game, we'll be like them in that we lost to KC, that's it. For now, all we know is KC is one of only a few undefeated teams in the NFL. Every year there's a team that turns out to be a LOT better than anyone predicted, and I'm not ruling KC out of that role just yet.
The best team doesn't always win every week. We beat the Colts in week one, but I don't think anybody is ready to stake our claim as a better team. KC has a phenomenal special teams (ST is very overlooked by fans) and a very good running game, along with a pretty decent defense. They've also got a lot of potential if they can develop their passing game, having weapons like Bowe, Mccluster, and Charles out of the backfield. We SHOULD beat them at home, with our run defense being our strong suit, but they've got a lot of big play potential.
I don't think KC is as bad as everyone is making them out to be, they could very well win their division. They have TWO excellent running backs and a decent defense, that will keep them in most games. That being said, Houston matches up extremely well with them. They are a pretty poor passing team which helps our weakness. The Texans are great against the run, so they can hold Charles and Jones in check.
the jury is still out on kc. but, it is still out for us as well. all i know is kc is on the rise and seem to be playing with purpose. if they beat us will you not admit that kubes just can't get it done?
I don't think Kubes can get it done anyway. I have never thought he has had the right mentality to be a head coach. Granted, he has made some better decisions this year than usual, but he still has no killer instinct of any kind
In what world do you live in where it makes sense to throw Kubiak out the window if we're, say, 4-2 going into the bye week, coming off a loss to an undefeated KC team? It's silly to be that reactionary to ONE loss. Let the season play out first, jeez.
